Hello everyone. Could you tell me if a B12 level of 315 is a cause for concern?

I am hypothyroid with hashimotos. I have had tongue tingling constantly with burning feet and continued tiredness. I had some blood results back today and my B12 came back at 315.

This seems a bit low. I'd be interested in hearing your thought.

Many thanks

It will depend upon the reference range but generally speaking, although this isn't optimal, it isn't low in comparison to a lot of people. For example, when I was diagnosed with Pernicious anaemia my levels were shockingly low at 80. Even with weekly B12 treatment my levels do not rise much above 700/900. My teenage Daughters level is 230. This is not deemed low enough for any treatment by the Dr's, despite the fact that every time she is tested, her levels have dropped even lower. Of course, in saying all of that, blood serum levels are not indicative of what is going on at cell level. You may not be utilising even half of this. The only way to find out is to get an active B12 test. This way you will have a better idea. But it is unwise to supplement any form of B12 for at least 6 weeks before the test or else you may get a false result. Sorry I cannot comment on Hashimoto's or symptoms as I don't know much about thyroid conditions. Good luck!

Hi Luna ,

Thank you so much for your reply. I will ask my endo to investigate it further.x

Sounds a bit low, mine were 207 and I increased to 800 with oral tablets, feel much better.

Hi joesmum, mine's just under yours at 277 (range given as >140ng/L) and I have the same symptoms as you, sore & tingling tongue, tingling feet & legs, burning feet for over 20 years but no reason ever given. Ferritin is dropping 18 now (11-200 ug/L) and Folate has dropped too, just under range 3.9 (>4ug/L) don't know what is causing the problems. I'm seeing a haematologist in a few weeks so I'll see what happens.
