I felt much better having had my 6 B12 injections but began to feel worse again 3 weeks before my next injection was due.

I had my injection but didn't feel better for a couple of weeks. How long should the injection take to work? What levels should b12 go to when you have an injection?

I had the same problem for the first couple of years although the Doc said my blood tests were fine. In the end I asked for a copy of the results. My iron and folate levels were only just in at the very very bottom of the normal rate. Last six months I have been taking supplements and have had no dip at all in how I feel between injections. I suggest asking for copies of your last few blood test results, see how they compare and check if your well in normal range or just scrapping in at the bottom. Good luck

This according to the medical establishment is ok. Your body has run out of B12 and is no longer producing healthy red blood cells, this will continue until you get another injection of B12 and your body starts to again produce healthy red blood cells. However that's (in your case) three weeks of producing bad blood cells followed by three of producing good blood cells to reach the point where you were six weeks before. So assuming your on a 12 week B12 injection regime, for six out of twelve weeks your at less than your optimum, but that according to the medical establishment is ok.

You could ask your doctor for more injections - you might be lucky.

You could try supplements - didn't work for me.

You could try self injection - a wee bit scary maybe

I 'was lucky' and got the extra injections - and then developed CFS :(

Thank you for replying. I am having the injections every 12 weeks. I felt ill for 3 weeks before and 3 weeks after but in week 4 I started to feel better. I rang for my results yesterday and at 3 and a half weeks after my injection my level was 900. It was 88 before I started the injections. I would like to know how low it falls before my next injection is due. Does that make sense? Should my doctor be trying to find out why my level is so low?

I was feeling the same a bit tired and muddled before my due date. I started taking folate and my Doc whole heartedly agreed. Seems to have done the trick. I also asked him if I could still get iron based anaemia. He told me yes but my last test for iron was fine.
