NAC and Glutathione Supplements

It appears that NAC, which is a precursor to glutathione, is helpful. It is contained in at least two of my many supplements.

Thank you for sharing.

I stopped taking 3x600mg NAC on a previous publication that was telling the exact opposite...

Back to NAC...

That's frequently a frustration of mine. One day something is supposedly good for us and the next day, it's supposedly harmful. It's always just an educated guess as to what to take, but I prefer a shotgun approach, hoping that at least some of what I take is actually helpful.

With Hope as our cushion... we all float along grasping at straws... oh Lord, PD is “Titanic”!

how did you feel before stopped taking it? did it help?

Impossible to tell. Sometimes I feel better, but what is the cause among my treatments and supplements ? I do not know. It's a leap of faith somehow.

"NAC injections were given once a week."

“On the days that subjects did not receive the intravenous NAC, they took 600mg NAC tablets orally 2 times per day,"

Maybe the NAC injections provided most of the benefit?

Needs another trial.

Dr. Mischley is not fond of NAC. . . She recommends Glutathione.

In my "shotgun approach", I take both....😊

Despe profile image
Despe in reply tojimcaster

I hear you. :) My husband was taking both until our consult with her.

In what form is the glutathione your husband takes? As I understand, it is difficult for it to get through the digestive system & pass the bbb.

Liposomal Glutathione, by QuickSilver.

My husband used this brand for Lyme but didn't work for him, that's why we switched to the gel and suppositories.

Linda, Dr. Mischley prescribed intranasal glutathione which he will start shortly. Hope this method will help him even more.

LindaP50 profile image
LindaP50 in reply toDespe

From all my research - intranasal is very effective! Good luck to you and your husband.

A year ago Dr Mischley was pro NAC, now she is against it. Do you know what caused this change of opinion?

Despe profile image
Despe in reply toreedboat2

No, she didn't explain, she recommended intranasal reduced glutathione.

I do have a lot of questions during consultation, but we always run out of time before we have a chance to ask her.

For Lyme Disease (which morphed into PD for my hubby) he took NAC as a precursor to Glutathione (gel - liposomal glutathione). Helps him. Continued on when diagnosed with PD.

AmyLindy profile image
AmyLindy in reply toLindaP50

Does hubby Neurologist feel Lyme triggered PD? That’s encouraging that NAC is helpful .

LindaP50 profile image
LindaP50 in reply toAmyLindy

Neurologist has not chimed in. The integrative doctor who provided care for hubby when he first had Lyme - we all agreed - did the chicken come before the egg? In his case, the PD was probably there but so mild, the Lyme brought it to surface. Many years ago hubby worked in a print shop with chemicals and farms in the summers - more chemicals.

The C part of NAC is the rate limiting step in the body making glutathione so in theory it should help. The other aspect is that in doing so does it make a sufficient amount to make it to the brain.

Liposomal glutathione is a good bet as is acetylglutathione and TESSMED's cyclodextrin glutathione in terms of delivering the molecule into the body.

Infusions of glutathione are quite good.

"Not confident they are indicated and data reported at WPC

suggested PWP already have too much lacto and Bifido."

From Dr. Mischley regarding probiotics.

Thanks for posting. I've been wondering about probiotics. I take them for a few days then off for a few days. I may stop altogether.

How do you get to consult with Dr. Mischley remotely? Or did you travel to see her? I am in the US but on the east coast.

Despe profile image
Despe in reply toPDGal4

I live in the southern US, too far to travel :) Our consult is via telemedicine, something like skype, but the doctors use a different program for medical consults.

@PDgal4 I consult w Dr Mischley too but via Skype- shes on the net, Google her name and Seattle Integrative Medicine. She’s an expert/advocate of Intranasal Glutathione but freely admits it is cumbersome/expensive.

I use two products with NAC from a company called Apex Energetics. A liquid called Trizomal Glutathione and capsules called Dopatone.
