Is anyone using NAC, and if so, for how long, what brand, and have you noticed any improvement, problems etc. Thanks in advance !

Yes I take NAC. About 600 mg twice a day. I compound my own – I add 25% by weight calcium hydroxide to neutralize the acidity, and encapsulate that mix in 00 capsules. This is not necessary for most people – it suffices to just buy NAC in capsules already.

I am not sure it has done anything for my Parkinson's, but it has been a lifesaver relieving prostate inflammation.

Well, if it helps one part of the body with inflammation, it should help other parts too ?

Maybe so. It is a very interesting compound in that it has many uses. Is FDA approved in IV form to remedy liver toxicity. It is also thins mucus and breaks up bacterial biofilms. I use it in pH neutralized form as part of my own customized toothpaste because it breaks up biofilms. That put a stop to dental decay I was having. My dentist says I am "smarter than the average bear".

What does your specialised toothpasrte consist of

pH neutralized NAC, calcium ascorbate, serrepeptase, all preserved in 40% ethyl alcohol.

interesting toothpaste formula Park Bear, can you elucidate why you are using the enzyme serrepeptase?

It breaksup biofilms like NAC does. Biofilms cause tooth decay.

Is it necessary/ Do u brush a long while and hold /swish to get a good coating?

I regard the serrepeptase as optional but I have not tried to do without it. I use a Braun motorized brush for 2 minutes and then floss before rinsing.

Diligently flossing daily after brushing (instead of when I get around to it) is a recent commitment because it seems my gums need it. It remains to be seen how well I honor this commitment. #fessing_up

I take NAC everyday to help control my blood pressure. No problems to report after years of use.

BP ? I'll have to look into that for my husband !

in reply to KERRINGTON

You have to take it with a NO agonist such as arginine for the reduced blood pressure effect. I read about it many years ago in a study. I did better than the study participants, but I also took a higher dose than the study.

Notice the other benefits associated with this combination!

Hmm, interesting. He tried arginine alone because we read that was good for bp, but the bp went up so he stopped. Now, we'll read up on the info you gave us. Thanks :)

I take it every day. Just 500mg a day now as I got tired of taking so many pills. I’ve taken it since diagnosis and so far I’m not really declining though I do sometimes feel twitchy and I drag my left foot a little more.

I also take mannitol, azilect and a little madapor.

My neuro told me last time that my PD was not noticeable to the untrained eye.

Well, if you're not declining, then some of those 2 zillion pills gotta be working !

Heard fm my Neuro that the Inosine trials were not successful. No word yet on the NAC trials.

Any info yet on the NAC trials at Harvard Med/Mass Gen ?

Sorry. I may have confused that the early NAC trials were sponsored by Mass Gen. I was micmicking on my own another Trial there focusing on Inosine, which eventually turned out this year to be negative.

But very positive NAC results from small-sample trials at Thomas Jefferson University were published in Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics this year. NAC has also been recommended to me by Dr. Glen Rothfeld, who has PD and practices integrative medicine at Rothfeld Apothecary in Waltham, Massachusetts. Enough to encourage me to keep taking a large daily dose (2400mg) of NAC.

Thanks, I recently read about that study, but it involve both oral, and parental administration of Nac. I've been looking for more studies on it. One poster said the Hinz protocol uses it, while another says Dr Mischley doesn't use it now.

Take a lk at the recent results for Zishenpingchan. Lg double blind study in China. Pretty definitive. Recorded no side effects.

Ck out NAC. A couple of small studies found very positive results in reduction of typical PD symptoms. Recommended by Glen Rothfeld, an integrative MD located in Waltham, Massachusetts, who has had PD for many years.

Ha !I have been checking it over, and over.. actually taking it, till I read enough articles that said it needs to be injected in order to get into the brain... Sooo....figured I'd take a break, and do more searches. I like that Dr Rothfeld thinks enough of it to recommend it. ..a rare doctor. Can you share anything else he recommends ? Thanks.
