I just discovered that coffee helps my meds kick in.

I've been reporting about the problems I have during my "off periods" of stiffness, shivering etc. I had tried taking hot tea while I am waiting for my meds to work and it helped a little. But just a week ago or so I started taking instant coffee instead. The results have been dramatic. I get almost immediate relief. I know we are all different, but I do hope this will help others.

Now Costco has an Irish Cream ( $15.99 for a 1 1/2 L. Bottle ) which makes a wonderful coffee creamer. Now those med's kick in faster and the morning is looking pretty good.

Joanne, that instant is not decaf, is it? Have you compared instant with and w/o the caffeine? Caffeine may be favored by many Parkees because of its alleged risk-reduction, but it makes my tremors worse, and does not even help to keep me awake. It would be useful to know if PD meds can be accelerated by decaf.

Hi Dumpelkin, I am quite sure that it is the caffeine that is helping. But it would be helpful if we find out from others if decaf helps so we know whether it is the caffeine or the coffee itself. I myself haven't tried decaf.

I've done this for a number of years... Jump starts my day! I like iced coffee in summer as well. Guess it's a trade off for diet soda and stuff I used to drink!
