Help, can increasing you meds be dangerous

I had my c/L increased recently to 1.5 tablets 25/100 4 to 5 times a day. Suddenly the last couple days the meds only work for about an hour and take an hour to kick in. I start shaking violently and I end up taking more meds . I am not fit to go to emergency and I cannot get a hold of my doctor or neuro. This is terrifying.

If more medication is making you worse why not back off? (Important to do so gradually)

But I start trembling and panicking if I don't get the medication

Is this ‘wearing off’? Maybe investigate if swapping some of the existing immediate release (I assume) for controlled release C/L would help smooth out the peaks and troughs?

Agree - addition of CR or even the addition of Comtan to lengthen the C/L certainly works for my husband and he takes meds 4 times per day 100/25 and 200/50 CR, with 1 comtan at each dose to lengthen.

I think this is an overdosing symptom. If medication has changed recently and symptoms started after that it is pretty likely to be due to the change in meds in my opinion.

What was the original problem? What was the change expected to improve? What was your original regimen (a series of time and dose pairs)? What were the likely interactions with food? Try taking the original regimen for a day. This should take you back to where you were in terms of symptoms. Write down your symptoms. Then, a day at a time, starting with the first dose of the day, increase this, leaving later doses unchanged. If this causes no problems, repeat the process one step at a time. If you hit a problem, back away.

I'm new to PD but my instinct for you is to back down slowly with your meds. Be a pest with your doctor, demand an answer. What's happening to our bodies can be frightening but the more we get anxious the more our bodies can get out of control.

All medications weather pharmaceutical or natural take time! Sometimes the answer is not just adding more medication because they have side effects.

Rescue remedy lozenges can be bought over the counter and can help with panic, Its safe and natural. Turn on whatever music or meditation that calms you.

Whatever you can do safely as far as movement and exercise,do it! It will relieve alot of stress and anxiety and is proven to help PD.There are so many videos on you tube even chair exercises. Thai Chi is great PD. Hang in there 🙏

When the doctor would increase my hubby’s meds it was very slowly, I would cut pills in 4ths & add only 1/4 more per dose. Even that small amount showed a difference. Then months later add another forth per dose. Add slowly. Some doctors add it in a large dose & don’t stop to realize how much it adds up to per day. Good luck.

Review changes in your lifestyle:

1) Diet

2) Sleep

3) Stress/Anxiety

4) other illness or inflamation

5) vaccines

6) did I say diet - proteins use the same transport as C\L and should be avoided close to intake

It's sad that your situation hasn't improved yet. As has been said before, also in previous posts, you probably won't solve the problems by increasing your C/L medication. I am very curious about your B6, B9 and B12 test results and whether you have tackled your constipation problem by now.

Symptoms described is called dyskinesia or involuntary movement. It is not a PD symptom but it is medicine induced. One way of controlling the involuntary movement is reduction in C/L medication or take smaller doses at regular intervals. Since you mentioned it takes an hour for the medicine to kick in , have you tried taking it on empty stomach ? . I am only sharing my experience . I personally feel, you must must consult a movement disorder specialist or a neuro to get the right advice . Experimenting is not the solution.
