Low blood pressure

I have low blood pressure.

Somewhere I read that keeping the head lower than the feet at night helps

To accomplish that, they put something under the legs at the lower end of the bed.

Anybody know about this recommendation.

It helps to divert blood back towards the heart and head. If you can stand the taste any form of licorice can increase the blood pressure.

Thank you so much trekster22;

I love licorice. I try to get the really good kind from Austrailia.

I am going to read up on how to tilt the bed towards the head.

There is little point in doing this as you would only benefit whilst lying down,Its really only an emergency measure used in hospital to counter shock.Liqourice be carefull its great for constipation but to much and you may be running to the bathroom.Hydration is most important if you dont drink enough your blood pressure falls.If you ever feel thirsty your body is already telling you your dehydrated.

Balderdash;

I love liqourice!!

I slept with my feet elevated last night, and I felt wonderful upon awakening.

This is not to say I recommend this for everyone.

I tried it. It worked for me. But that was for one night.

I will try it for a while, and let you know.

Hugs and blessings, Eva

Do you have low BP when you are lying down.? Usually our BP is ok until we stand when it drops. I doubt putting blocks under your bed end will change this but you could try . If you get dizzy try drinking more fluids.

Hikoi;

My blood pressure was very low, and the cardiologist said it was due to PD.

He said to drink Gatoraid, coffee and use lots of salt.

The bloodpressure is coming back up, but I have felt terribly dizzy still.

That is why I am asking for suggestions.

I feel good in the mornings, but as the day gets going, and stress enters in, the dizzyness gets really bad.

Could that also be due to lack of sleep- like 4.4 h last night?

If the patient has problems regulating their BP in their sleep then raising the bed can help.

Raising the feet will not improve blood pressure; all it will do is help to supply the brain with more oxygenated blood while you are lying there. My BP is hovering around the hypotension threshold which was causing me daily faints if I didn't get horizontal immediately! These attacks are now less frequent. My PDNS and GP both recommended increasing my salt intake - I must be one of very few who has a packet of potato crisps daily on doctor's orders! I also try to keep my heart rate a bit higher by being as active as I can, since I noticed most dizzy attacks happened while I was sitting, not standing. Several things can help to increase BP; as mentioned by others before me. Hydration is vital and an area I struggle with. Drinking kills my appetite so if I drink I don'eat - great if you need to shed a few pounds but unfortunately I don't! Liquorice helps apparently, (yuk!); so does caffeine. The good news is we're less likely to have a stroke!

I welcome oxygen to my brain, no matter for how long or short:)
