Hi pancreatitis warriors! We recently partnered with Dr. Tim Gardner of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire, US to better understand how pancreatitis patients can benefit from using medical cannabis.
I have hereditary CP. My father died from it. My daughter has it, and my son is experiencing symptoms. I’m curious to know if medical cannabis is an effective pain management tool. In 2018, my gastroenterologist prescribed low dose fentanyl patch. It manages my pain most of the time. However, I hate having to use it. It causes severe constipation, so he put me on linzess, which is another powerful drug. Creon causes constipation too. I live in the US in Georgia. The state laws with regard to medical cannabis are among the strictest in the United States. It is legal to use it, but it is illegal to buy it and illegal to bring it into the state. I won’t buy it off the streets because who knows what is in it.
I use pot and it indeed works quite well for nausea. It works for pain also. My tramadol use is lowest its been since 2007. Depending on strain it can get you high. Indica strains are more relaxing than Sativa for me generally. Sativa are good during the day when I don't want to get sleepy. I also use it for inflammatory arthritis. btw, I know Tim Gardner and he is a fine pancreas doc. I highly recommend getting a panc specialist if you don't have one. I live in a state where it is legal but not yet available for sale except for medical. So I generally get it from people who grow their own strains, or from a state nearby where it is for sale. It can be pricey though unless you know someone.
