Mum, eating and her last few days.

Mum has started to refuse food, saying she is not hungry and actually fed up, the nurses are trying to explain we are moving quickly with our journey. Not too sure what any of this means, my sisters and I know agree that she is very poorly but giving her a little food may ease the way for her.the past few days we are leaving our glorious mum to be replaced with some shadow asking our help, we will be with her to the very end, but its still sad to see some feisty lady with no response. Mum would have wanted a challenge, either the disease or the

I hate to confirm what the nurses have said, but towards the end the appetite does go, my Dad was the same. It is awful to see someone you love, fade away in front of you and feel helpless, but just by being there with them, you're helping. Go with what she wants, don't try to force food on her, just make sure she is comfortable and try to be "normal"...as normal as you can be. That helped us tremendously and I know Dad appreciated it, we were even laughing on his final day!

Take care

My husband too refused food for the last few days. He just slept most of the time. So distressing for you. As Jayne says go with what she wants. Take care

I think about what it will be like to watch my husband slip away so I imagine how awful this is for you. At the same time I hope for this rather than his being in pain. Your mom knows you're there and it's so important for her even if she can't show it.

Thanks for your comments. Terrible day today, mum too tired even to see us. We have been told to expect the worse and that mum is very tired and poorly. Totally shocked us all as we want to see her so much these last few days. Understand it is the disease and not our mum but the sheer speed of everything is something we are all struggling with.

So sorry, I know how you are feeling xx When I saw Mum in hospital I hadnt seen her for a while as I had been ill and we lived in different parts of the country and she was pleased to see us yet so ill xxx Although your Mum is so tired at least she will sense you are there even if she is asleep and feel comforted, although i said to my Mum to rest and not worry about usxx
