Rhuemy now says I have sesamoiditis in both thumbs. It feels similar in base of little fingers too. Anyone else got this? I'm on arcoxia for the arthritis in rest of my hand joints and big toes. It seems to be helping a bit. but Sesamoiditis as well? Why?

Sesamoiditis now!?!
Hello
You will find an explanation on this on wikapedia, They seem to be arthritic two bones of same name behind the toe.
All the best
BOB
ps NHS cHOICES have nothing on this bone it is a bone name, now I know
The sesamoid is the name of the bone. There is one behind the big toe, one each side of the thumb, one at the base of the index finger and base of little finger. I discovered that. It just seems weird that I should have sesamoiditis (inflammation around the sesamoid bones) in both thumbs and little fingers, as well as arthritis in the other finger joints, and wrists.
Thats a great word to keep for scrabble!
Rowantree, one disease process may have set the other one off. Or the sesamoiditis may be the result of compensation - these fingers working harder because the arthritic ones are not as agile as they used to be.
Thanks zanna. I hadn't thought of that. Makes sense.
