shoulder replacement

Hi there, I'm sure you will get some replies re shoulder replacement but a good source of information and support is a charity called Versus Arthritis. They also have a help line and a series of exercises that are physio led. These cover all the joints and may be helpful to you. But the best source of information that we would recommend would be your GP or physio.

Absolutely the very best decision I ever made. For years I was getting steroid injections for what my doctor had told me was arthritis in my shoulder. When he retired, he sent me to an orthopedic shoulder specialist. Doing his own tests, including an MRI, he told me that I had rotator cuff tears and that it had gone on without treatment so long that I needed a full reverse shoulder replacement. It was done as outpatient surgery. I was given a plethora of medication scrips to fill before surgery and was told to be sure to take them on time because playing catch up after the pain was felt wasn’t good. After the surgery you need to wear a brace that keeps the shoulder immobilized. There is also a bolster that is velcroed to the brace to keep the shoulder away from your body. I only needed pain meds for 10 days even though I probably had at least 3 weeks of prescriptions. However, the problem that occurred was with the brace. The way it is placed to keep you immobilized and the shoulder away from your body caused an acute back spasm that was unbearable. I couldn’t move. My rehab specialist said I could stop using it after 3 weeks even though I was ordered to wear it for 6 weeks. I never had much pain, rehab was a breeze and I have full mobility. I only wish I had done it sooner because the steroid shots made my glaucoma unmanageable.
