Resus and hospital please explain ?

Someone I know was taken to hospital and immediately taken to resus where they have been for the last around 8hrs the nurses told family members to go home and would ring if any change ..I just Want to know are they out of the woods but obviously still needing treatment ?

could be good news they wouldn`t send the family home if it was life threatening.

As an Ex A&E nurse it's impossible to say. Anyone who is in resus needs a high level of care and monitoring. It's likely that they are awaiting a bed in a high dependency or intensive care environment. Patients can be very sick but stable in resus, or they can be critical. And because of the unpredictable nature of medicine they can move from being stable to critical very easily. That is why communication between the resus team and the next if kin is vital. Expectations need to be managed.
