I've just been told by my GP that he can no longer prescribe Lidocaine Patches and instead there is a cream!. I've been having them for a long time for neuropathic pain and just wonder if this is correct.?.
Also, is anyone trying the cream called LMX and how are you finding it?. Hope its just as helpful.
Your experiences on this would be very welcome.

Hello Misty14, I am sorry to hear this as I could not live without my Lidocaine Plasters. I fully understand how you feel.
My Rheumatologist Consultant initially prescribed Lidocaine (brand) plasters December 2017.
However, last September 2022, this was changed over to Ralvo medicated plasters by Surgery Cinical pharmacist, which are exactly the same ingredients. Like you, I was a little anxious.
I would say, please do speak with your Specialist/doctor. I live in Southeast, Hampshire and my Doctor is very supportive.
I do not have experience of using LMX cream. I do use Volterol get 2.32% or Diclofenac on prescription.
Thank you Energy for your lovely reply. I felt anxious too when they were changed to Ralvo but its been great and just like you i can't manage without them!. My Pain Consultant prescribed them and luckily i'm seeing her in a fortnight so i will see what she says and let you know if you'd like?.
Hope you continue to still get yours. Its so stressful not getting all our usual meds too!. Take careXx
I absolutely could not funtion without my lidocaine patches after major neck and shoulder spasms. Also on Meloxican (anti- Inflammation) meds and I find the combination helpful. I am in the US and have no issues with GP prescribing these. I wish you good luck and pain free days. 🧡💜
Hello! I work for a doctors surgery in the pharmacy team, we aren’t allowed to prescribe them anymore, we get patients started on them in hospital in our area but told they can’t be carried on when they leave. I used to work in the hospital too and it was awkward explaining this to patients. It’s rather controversial as we get specialists also recommending them and then told we can’t issue as per latest guidance. All areas in the country are slightly different at the moment as have different ICB (formally CCG) teams directing prescribing. Absolutely not saying I agree with it at all, just wanted to update on what was happening.
Thank you lily for your very interesting reply. It does help to know the background to these decisions and i do know they are expensive so with budgets squeezed , its not surprising i guess. I wonder if it 's possible to make a case to your local CCG to have them if you really can't manage without?. Xx
