Crumbling Discs.

I was diagnosed around 30 years ago with DDD in 5 discs in my back and 2 in my neck.

After saving to pay privately for an MRI scan back in December knowing I'd have to wait 2 years due to Covid delays on the NHS, knowing something had changed and the pain was much worse.

I was told I now have 4 discs in my neck and 5 in my back which have almost crumbled to nothing and nothing could be done.

But was also told not to worry, as once the discs have crumbled completely, the vertebrae will scar over where the discs once were and the pain will disappear!

Has anyone else had or heard of this?

HiI have been told exactly the same thing. I it in my have neck and low back.I also had to say to my Dr that I would pay for an mri it was then I was given one on the nhs. I had an operation 32years ago which has now failed. I had spinal cord stimulator fitted last year. It does help but doesn’t take the all pain away. Hope you get some help soon.

was you told by a doctor? they are daft----ive got arthiritus of the spine----was told to take double dose of gabapentin-i knew it wouldnt work--ive had morphine---didnt work-if morphine doesnt work-nothing will-the stupid doctors dont understand this

I too have been told the same thing. I’m 50 & I was told by the time I’m retired it will all settle down as there will be no movement. Hard to get you head round.

I can understand your frustration and despair, as do all of us battling severe pain. Hope something or someone can help you soon x
