Tramadol and Nefopam

I’m awaiting a PKR and MRI results on the other; I am in agony! Been on Tramadol for 2 years but pain got worse so GP prescribed Nefopam for when especially severe. Has anyone been prescribed Tramadol and Nefopam together? When I requested more a different GP told me I should never have been prescribed the Nefopam, refused my request and shifted me onto morphine but I’m not happy on it at all. Please if anyone can give me advice, I’d be very grateful, I am so desperate 😢

Hi, Nefopam only worked in conjunction with Tramadol for me. Neither in isolation helped.

Hi JRAB, I can tell you about my experience of Tramadol. I was given this about 5 years ago due to excessive pain that I was in with a septic shoulder. As soon as I took it I was really ill and was rushed to hospital where they had to do CPR on me because I had a severe allergic reaction to it which nobody knew about it at the time. It turns out that I can't have anything with opiates in them because I get the same reaction, this includes morphine, codeine, tramadol is the worst. So to me if you have been prescribed another medication on top of the Tramadol I wouldn't take it. I know I am not the only person who has problems taking Tramadol but I do know that it is the strongest painkiller that hospitals give you, so why you was prescribed something else as well is beyond me.

Blimey, that’s as serious as a reaction gets- you must have been petrified. What did you take for pain relief instead after that?

I can't take pain killers, all I can take is paracetamol and that is rubbish. I am due an operation soon and I can't take anything after the operation so I will be in a lot of pain, it is something I have to deal with and it is horrible.

That must be a terrifying thought to know you can’t take anything other than paracetamol. I wish you a very speedy recovery when you have the op. Good luck and thank you

Hi, the hospitals now give paracetamol intravenously which is wonderful. My husband was given this in hospital after his quadruple heart bypass. Brilliant it was. Hope this information is helpful to you. Take care and happy Christmas 🎄
