I am new here. I would be interested to know which medications have been good for controlling sciatic pain caused by disc degeneration. I am on Zapain cocodomol, but my head feels very fuzzy. Has anyone else experienced that.

Medication for sciatic pain
Hi Kazzyo100 , firstly welcome on board. I take pregablin for nerve pain from my neck and causes sciatica pain and it helps it there is also Amitriptyline and others which are out there but I have tended to stick with pregablin.🙏
Thanks for your response Littleboy. I take one Amitriptyline each night. I asked the doctor if you can take cocodomol with Amitriptyline and she said you can. I don’t know if either or both of these medications are making my head feel so fuzzy. I will ask the doc if progablin might suit me.
I take Kapake which is the same as cocodomol but different name I would think it's the Amitriptyline that is making your head fuzzy it had same effect on me and I stopped taking them . Where is your disc degeneration too or bottom. Clive x 🤗
I’ve had sciatica on and off since I was 21 years old , I’m68 now . I guess I just get on with
it. Stretching exercises help and plenty of dog walking , but I go rather slow these days as my feet are not good .
Best painkiller for me is Gabapentin, and best thing I have tried as an item is a full back length heatpad 😁Yes I get fuzzy head from co-codamol in the first half hour or so of taking them.
You mention Gabapentin, recent posts on this site from people that have put on 2 stone each by taking Gabapentin. I know it was on the side affects leaflet so I wouldn’t even try it as I need to lose some weight . It might be a good drug for pain but what’s the point if people putting on weight and then have the hindrance of affecting bad health because of the weight gain . I know it’s a difficult issue.
First that I have heard, been on them nearly 10 years and I am quite overweight but haven't put on any weight from being on them. You can only put on weight from overeating so maybe Gabapentin made some people hungry?
Well there was a recent post on here and two people mentioned it. I read it in the leaflet enclosed in the box . I didn’t take the chance. I have heard that they are good tablets, !!!! hence . Thanks for replying,
You generally hear the bad more than the good in life, and yes I couldn't do without gabapentin, it is the one medication that I can tell you works amazingly.
That’s very nice to hear . Pleased you are having success.
Maybe I should consider it.
I have bad tinnitus though
and I’ve heard some meds
make tinnitus worse.
You can’t win . .
I am on 35 tablets a day, a weekly injection and inhalers with no side effects. Maybe I am just lucky 🤷♀️😂
Yes, every medication is worth a trial at least.
With gabapentin the only side effect I had for about a week was occasional dizziness, like sea sickness, it was a little comical but it soon went. I moved up after a couple of weeks of increases to maximum dose of 12 300mg a day.
greekqueen, research how B12 methylcobalamin especially sublingual and B1 thiamine in the form of Benfotiamine enhance Gabapentin's effectiveness. Always consult your health care professional before using any supplement
Hi Kazzyo100I was put on cocodomol some weeks ago when my hip pain began and before PMR diagnosed. They made me feel all over the place and after I nearly crashed my car I decided against - reverting to a mix of ibuprofen and paracetamol! My intolerance of cocodomol is echoed by quite a few friends. Maybe ask for referral to a pain clinic?
Regards. Frank
Hi I have lower back pain. I take naxprogen normally and Zapain when the pain is unbearable . I get fuzziness in my head and feel I’m on a boat. I have to lie down for it too pass but feel extremely tired.
Hope you get better
