Postherpetic neuralgia. Apart from painkillers, any suggestions on how to manage this pain, please.
Postherpetic neuralgia.: Postherpetic neuralgia... - Pain Concern
Postherpetic neuralgia.
Pregabalin, gabapentin, amitriptyline...any nerve pain killers I've had PN for many years, but now it comes and goes and not nearly so bothersome. I find it best to try to distract myself whaen it happens, sadly yes it can last forever!
I have had PHN shingles in January 2019. It is on my RH side - belly button round to spine and all of my rib cage on both sides. I have not found anything that works although I have tried a great many things from prescription meds to a whole host of complementary and alternative remedies/treatments. The only thing I take for it is Amatriptyline 30 mg daily which was prescribed for the pain but doesn't do anything apart from help me to sleep which is wonderful after being an insomniac most of my life and if I was not sleeping with the PHN pain not sure how I would cope. I was prescribed Tramadol but it made me sick and also gaberpentin but I don't want to take that after reading what experiences some people have had with that and I assume pregabalin would be the same. If you are on Facebook there is a Postherpetic Neuralgia (PHN) Chronic Neuralgia Support Group which I have found quite helpful and supportive. If you find something that helps, please let us know!!
