Am still struggling with this awful drug, prescribed for lower back pain...last chance after several surgeries and a neurostimuiator. All useless, in worse pain than ever.
So hope someone can help me with this experience. Have been taking it for three days at 8 in the evening and, apart from the lethargy, am ok till 3.30 following day. Then it hits like a thunderbolt. Shaking, hot and cold, generally going nuts with despair, pain and depression. ...lasts 2 hours of utter hell.
Has anyone else had this? Is it normal for this drug? Am very sensitive to drugs but this is all too much. Pregabalin was even worse ( one tiny dose leaving me in agony for four days!) if that’s possible.
Beginning to feellike a freak. My doc says to persevere, and am not a weak person, but those two hours are beyond bearing.
so appreciate hearing from someone with the identical experience and what you did about it. Thank you.

I think listen to your GP and keep going for a little while as it takes a while for the body to settle down to it. However, having said that, if you are experiencing depression with this keep talking to your GP, because it is a know side effect. For most people though, it will pass.
Thank you, I will. About two weeks, doc said today. As only on 5th day, seems like going to be a nightmare journey but maybe am one of the lucky ones...that would make a change!
Pregabalin takes some getting used to. Recently i had to reduce to one daily. I felt dizzy, very wobbly when walking, headaches and pain 10++. Now back on full dose and now back to my normal. I remember first taking the drug. My GP encouraged me to continue and i am so glad i persevered. Grit your teeth and give it a go is my best advice, it will take at least 3 months. Good luck
Hi Fyllida, have you asked your GP to start you on a lower dose,20 mg first week than double it the second week and so on. I remember I had headaches and nausea when I used to take it and the pain consultant suggested I start on a low dose and go slow till your body adjusts to it. And it worked. The only long term side effect I have from it is constipation which is probably the most common one. Give it a go on 20 mg. Good luck x
Thank you Entela15.. that’s exactly what I wanted to do but GP said not much difference between the two, and that 30mg was lowest advisable dose for pain, not depression or anything else this drug treats. But still wish had insisted and was very sceptical but as it’s 5th day tomorrow, possibly too late to switch.
Oh I see, if you can persevere for a few more days. If side effects are too much for you to be live with than it's not worth it. There are other SNRI similar to duloxetine such as venlafaxine. I know it's not licensed for pain but doctors do prescribe it off label. I've tried so many drugs for fibro pain and they all have side effects. I remember taking indomethacin for two weeks and all my pain went.
However when I read the list of potential side effects I stopped it. Hope you get some relief x
I was on deloxitine, side effects were awful, I was shaking on them, teary, and awful diziness I couldn't even turn over in bed without the room spinning, spent days in bed, and pain was still as bad. I did persevere but I came off them in the end side effects were just too bad. I'm on pregabilin now, those side effects are bad too, they make you feel spaced out and generally not function, and don't really help with the pain just numb your mind a bit. Having tried many pain killers for the past 20 years when you get to this level of pain killer they all seem very similar in side effects. Good luck, I hope the side effects calm down and they hello with the pain xx
