Doctor this is my wifes story careopinion.org.uk/opinions...
Can you give us advise and any ideas we cant go private sadly.
We live in scotland can you tell us how the rules and regulations and clinical need
and how its assessed for knee surgery by the nhs/Private Practise.
My wife is 5 feet 9 inches and weighs 21 stone the weight has increased since changing her mental health drugs.
No pain relief works her knees are swallon and has fluid on them both the right knee doesnt respond to steriods.
Shes tried exercizes to strenghen the muscle tone the gym a nhs qualifield instructor
told my wife joanne that exercize in her case wont help the knee.
She has overdosed given up all activities and even the will to live now.
She has threatend to not take her MH Meds when she does the links below shows
her behaviour gets out of control.
She has just finished a community programme aproach after 2 yers plus now her physical helth is being ignored.
We have complained and there may be hope as a ortopdic doctor has agreed to look at her case again.
Is there any thing that will help her case or things not too mention its a shame public spending and politics come in to peoples well being.
She broke 2 ankles needing pins 2 years ago and they operated and all now is well.
Does a nhs patient have a right to be refered to a nother nhs area in the uk if they arent happy ?
Any information you can send would help us please try and do something.

NICE states:
Consider referral to an orthopaedic surgeon, irrespective of the person's age, body mass index (BMI), or co-morbidities, before the person has severe functional limitation and/or pain if:
· Symptoms of joint pain, stiffness, and functional impairment are refractory to primary care management and
· There is a significant impact on the person's quality of life.
· There is uncertainty about the diagnosis or atypical symptoms.
· There is a sudden worsening of symptoms.
o Surgical treatment usually involves joint replacement or fusion. Arthroscopic lavage and debridement may be considered for people with knee osteoarthritis with a clear history of mechanical locking. Hand involvement may be treated by excision of the trapezium or joint fusion.
o Complications of joint replacement may include aseptic loosening, pain, dislocation, infection, and fracture.
