Just wanted to know what tests everyone had ruled out first before they got diagnosed with fibro? I have my first rheumatologist app in 3 weeks and they think it's fibromyalgia x

It was the rheumatologist who diagnosed my fibromyalgia so hopefully you will get confirmation or not in 3 weeks as its rheumatologist a who can diagnose fibro. It took about 4 years for me to get a rheumatologist appointment. Before that I had referral to gasterentalogy to diagnose the stomach issues I had so that took a few months....and couple of grrr brain fog....camera down the throat....forgot what it called, then I had ct scan of abdomen. All this taking time waiting for appointments/results. Then I had a couple of referrals to physiotherapy, one physiotherapy referral lasted 9 months so that took up some time, then there were blood tests and gp trying me on different medications and giving them time to work...that all took about 4 years n then gp referred me to rheumatologist....where I eventually got diagnosed.

Good luck in finding out what's wrong

None really. I had already been diagnosed with ME about three years previously, though I'd had it for nearly 20 years before diagnosis. All my elimination tests for other conditions were done prior to the ME diagnosis.

Then a couple of years later my pain started getting a lot worse and in all the typical Fibro tender points. So I went to my GP who straight away suspected I was right and she diagnosed the Fibro herself. I've never been to a rheumy for a Fibro diagnosis, or for any other reason actually.

But the tests prior to ME diagnosis were for all sorts of things. I had dozens of blood tests, 2 endoscopes, breast exam, mammogram, 2 ultrasounds (1 stomach, 1 cervical), ECG, EEG, CT scan. From memory they were checking for various anaemia including pernicious, various potential cancers, ulcers, leukaemia, rheumatic fever, gallstones, multiple sclerosis, coeliac, lupus, hypothroidism and I can't remember what else, there was a whole long list of them.

Good luck with your rheumy appointment, hope you don't have to go through too many tests to get your answer.

Gentle hugs, Margaret. xxx

Hi, I went through a rheumatologist who did some pressure point tests. I scored 15 at the time. He then handed me some leaflets on Fibromyalgia and "Ta-taa" away you go and get with it. Obviously I ha had all the blood tests before that to rule out other illnesses.

Hi.

Have you had blood tests to check Thyroid function?

Have you put on weight which can't be explained? Other symptoms?
