RLS and drug abuse

Hi, i am Missy and i am new here. I was actually looking up some severe side effect symptoms i recently had from a drug called Nubaine and i found this page. I am a drug addict, and during my withdrawal i had some of the worst RLS i have ever had. I am clean, 2 years 3 months sober thanks to medical detox, that saved my life! I basically got addicted while treating pain from compression fractures in my spinal cord, i got sledding. Lol. Someone made a drop off ramp in the snow and i ran that sucker flying down a steep hill, i flipped and broke my back. That was 20 years ago. My addiction to pain pills lasted 18 years. Now, i have rls, they thought it was a symptom of my withdrawal, but its been 2 years so if it was withdrawal it should be gone. It is not as bad as it was during my allergic reaction or my withdrawal but its bothersome enough to keep my from sleeping. I was wondering if anyone also got burning in their legs as well or in their lower spinal cord? I am on Lyrica now for sciatica, i heard it works for rls, but i have been taking it for about a month and while i have obtained significant relief from sciatica i get none from the rls. I probably shouldnt complain because from what i have read a lot of you have it so much worse and i feel so bad for you. Idk if i even want to continue to take lyrica cause it is controlled and can be habit forming and i am terrified of withdrawal. Can anyone suggest something for rls that isnt habit causing? If you cant suggest for whatever reason can you point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance. I pray with each day you all get better and better, chronic pain/rls is just awful πŸ’›πŸ’™πŸ’œ

Rls is a long term product of withdrawal and can last years.

Also there are many triggers for rls such as alcohol and antihistamines which obviously will continue the pain.

There is a dedicated RLS site here on Health Unlocked- you may get a better response from that crowd who would have lot of experience.

There are two sites worth checking out.

rlshelp.org

rls-uk.org

Both these are excellent for information.

Cheers.

Well at least you had a fun memory before you damaged your back lol. I have fractured vertebrae at L5 & S1 and suffer more with leg pain than with my back. Night time is the worst because I'm laying still. I have aching throbbing burning pain in both legs that keeps me awake at night. During the day I pace constantly to try and ease it and drive myself and everyone nuts while I do so. However I'm now on 40mg amitriptyline at night and it's helped a lot with the pain as it calms down the nerves. Don't know if this may help you but maybe worth a try. X

Hi I have ataxia pheripheral neuropathy terrible pains in my feet and legs.Dried amitriptyhine worked brilliantly but I'm also epilepsy sufferer and it brought more fits on .So if your not epileptic you could be on to a winner.Good luck I'm an ex alcoholic 6 yrs sober.im also going through fentanyl withdrawal not nice.

Hi I had to google Rls to see what it was. Have you looked at Wikipedia as there is some great info on there including drugs which might help. I found it interesting that low iron levels can cause this.
