Golfers elbow

Hi - I am a 67 year old ex cricketer but now avid golfer. I occasionally get quite a severe pain on my front left forearm near to the elbow - it lasts 2/3 seconds and then completely disappears for several minutes until I receive another reminder.

Is this tennis elbow or could there be a more serious condition?

Morning. You have golfer's elbow. Similar but affects different part of the elbow.

I had it on and off for years and have never lifted a golf club in my life! But was and still are a gardener.

It was very painful and certainly stopped me gardening for long periods.

It is treatable but involves rest.

I used to have steroid injections which worked well, I moved and new Doctor sent me for physio. I had to wear an elbow collar. Then physio gave me untra sound. That was about 6 yrs ago and since then not a twinge.

You must see your GP though an.

exMedial epicondylitis, or Golfer’s Elbow, is an irritation on the inner side of the arm and elbow. This condition can be caused by any activity that requires repeated twisting or flexing (bending downwards) of the wrist. In addition to golf, other activities may cause this condition such as racquet sports, baseball or softball, weightlifting, carpentry, painting and other similar activities.

Symptoms

Symptoms include pain on the inside of the elbow when lifting the wrist or hand, pain when twisting the forearm, or when making a fist. The area may be slightly swollen or tender to the touch. If the problem has lasted for a while, additional symptoms can include stiffness in the elbow or weakness in the hands or wr

This is possibly a warning that you need to pay more attention to what and how you are doing your activity. At your age it is very easy to do a self damaging movement because the feedback available before the start of the movement is not as good as they once were.

It is worth practising the movement slowly so that you can check that you not doing a movement you are should not be doing.

Fine movement control gets more and more difficult as we get older.

Hope this helps.
