I have been on Butrans for a couple of years now. I started with 5, then 10 and now on 20mcg patch. My doctor doesn't like the idea of increasing it for me any more, despite my constant pain, as I have Arrythmia of the heart and he thinks a stronger patch would affect it. But, to answer your question, I have never had worse breathing problems since I have been on the patches.....if you feel you have, then you really need to speak to your nurse or doctor. Good luck. :)

I was on the Butrans 20 mcg patch for two years with no breathing problems. I eventually developed an allergy to the adhesive and switched to the oral equivalent (Buprenorphine) however I really liked the constant level of relief the patch provided. I rarely had breakthrough pain.

Best of luck!
