Hi.

I was on butrans patches a few months ago at max dose.

They didn't seem to be doing anything.

So I'm now on Trans - Tec Patches.

Steve.

Thanks good luck

I was on Butrans for about 16 weeks. The first few were fine but at week 3 I had a mild skin reaction. By week 6 it was actually burning my skin badly enough that Doc took me off them immediately. It took nearly 6 weeks for my skin to heal.

I'm not sure if 16 weeks is weeks is long enough to develop a physical reaction but I had zero side effects stopping cold turkey. My next try was Suboxone and I had no problems coming off that one either.

Best of luck!!

I've been using Butrans for a few years now. Last year I started getting a skin reaction and wanted to try without them. Within a week the pain was horrendous! 30/50 co- codamol didn't touch it. I felt dreadful, not sure if some of it was withdrawal. I went back on them and pain relief was better. I still have breakthrough pain. The skin reaction occurs occasionally but I find if I put the patch behind my shoulders it doesn't happen! Good luck.

Hi @mycharlie

I think they have replaced the adhesive recently. I'm certainly not getting the itchy sore reaction that I just had to be scratched any more.

I've not tried them on my shoulders - will do so now. Thanks.

Gentle hugs,

Anna.

Hallo.

I have been using butrans patches for 10 years. I came off them once by choice as I didn't think they were working; I soon found out that they had been!

Butrans is a morphine derivative so you will get withdrawal symptoms when you stop using it. These are unpleasant though your GP will be able to help you through them.

I have found them the most suitable pain reliever for both fibro and osteoarthritis pain. Of course like other analgesics they don't deal with all the pain, but you probably know that already :(

I wish you a peaceful and pain-free day.

Gentle hugs,

Anna.

You cannot come off Butrans patches just because you want to. You must talk to whoever put you on them, e.g, GP or Pain Management Team. You must ramp down lowering the dose over time. I came off them suddenly and the withdrawal was terrible - if that is how drug addicts feel then it is really bad. Deep gnawing pains inside and very edgy! Saw GP next day who laughed and gave me different doses to come off slowly.

I was on weekly Bu-trans patches for severe knee, spine & neck OA for a couple years when the itching started, I wud have to take my patch off before the week was up as I wud have scratched my skin off.

I was given some hydro-cortisone cream to soothe the itch once that particular patch was off.

I then became immune to them so was put in 48 hour Fentalyn patches which did work at first but after about 6 mths I started to get like withdrawal symptoms after 24 then 12 hours, which were awful.

GP took me off them and put me onto oral morphine in the form of tablets & liquid. He had to convert the strength of the Fentalyn patch to that of the tablet to work out the dose.

I was at Pain Clinic last week and he wants me to come off Morphine over next 6 mths as its not the be all and end all of painkillers anymore.

I will then be put on painkillers gabapentin or pregablin I think they are called.

I will hopefully one day have some sort of medication that will take my constant pain away and live the rest of my life pain free - chance wud be a fine thing !!!!

I was on brutrans patches for a while I had to come off from them as they burnt my skin and was left with a square burn mark, I can't remember what dose I was on I know it was quite high saying that I stopped straight away without any problem.
