Hi All,

New to this site. I have disc degeneration L3-L5 with nerve root protrusion at L5. Getting alot of back spasms at the minute. On medication & have physio. Tumeric has been mentioned as an alternative pain relief. Just wondered if anyone would recommend this?

Thanks

Jenny

Similar history to yourself. I put tumeric into pretty much all my cooking and even into hot drink with honey , lemon or cider vinegar and cinnamon. Very enjoyable -but impossible to say whether it does any good. Certainly doesn't do any harm! !

Even on oxycontin 15mg p d - I'm in fairly constant pain- but don't want to increase dose. At least my Restless legs are kept under control with that dose.

Good luck.

Yes hear same and I do eat it a lot as it is in curry powder as well as also got it straight so tip a bit in casseroles extra for good measure. Whether it helps with pain - I'm on pain meds and nothing does the trick entirely - some just tend to notch it down a bit and anything natural well no side effects which can be as bad. Another good thing for health is to cook in coconut oil can eat it daily too and I've tried that and notice a definite slowdown of itching and eczema is fading away too. Plus helps out in going etc where gets red - doc said fungal but not and coconut balm stopped that. So give that a try for health itching etc. As far as pain meds tried heaps side effect rotten. Last was Norspan patch which I had for 18 months along with Codeine+paracetamol tablets and these patches started to itch too - and then worse under so stopped them. Now pain is up but head is less fuzzy - forgot what a clear head is til now. Thing is God gave us a cure for all of our ills - every prescription drug is based on some plant or bacteria - but if you can find it in natural mostly without any nasty side effects from manufactured drug. For info on all natural plants etc try this site preventdisease.com/news/13/... Berries are good for pain in nerves along with blackberries add strawberries for sweetness and these daily help burning pain in heels that some get in the night. So link handy. Hope this helps as if you start into looking and trying natural stuff will give your what your body lacks. Diet they say if everything but soils are worn out i most countries lack a lot of minerals etc that once we got. So need to add them. Topical OTC creams help pain also in joints knees side effects are if you put them on straight after shower - burn as pores open.

Someone recommended this recipe to me. You can freeze it in ice cube trays. turmericlife.com.au/turmeri...

Yrs I would! I know it's not the same but my dog paralysed his back legs. It was horrid and all vet did was prescribed pain killers. After one bottle they said if having morr which vet said he needed would have to have blood done as it causes kidney failure. Someone on fb said give him turmeric paste daily instead. I did. He is now walking and is 80% back to normal. I leave it for a few days each month just so his body doesn't get immune. You can tell on second day his limp and mood are bad. Brilliant anti inflammatory and has a proven track record if you look it up. Capsules are good but expensive but if you can stomach a drink or paste which has coconut oil and pepper in its quite cheap. Good luck and let me know if you try it. X

Hello Jenny, your info about tumeric is correct, it's recommended for pain. I am advised it takes months to have any benefit there is no concrete evidence to suggest the facts are true, but if you buy from the right place the capsules are quite cheap to try or tumeric sprinkled in food may have some minor benefits. It works for some might I add, but don't expect overnight miracles. I tried a costly online 3 month course which changed nothing. I would not buy from there again, they requested all my medical details and still keep ringing up. You can buy it cheaper on Amazon or the likes. Saffron is another one they suggest but apparently it has no sceintific proof and can be seriously dangerous in large doses. So proceed with care on any of these herbal options, as even vitamin C can make you ill if you have too much.

Hi im suffering the same but l5 s1 ive tried everything ive just had confermation im going in hospital 26 October for a spinal fusion ive tried many alternative medication to no avail. Im on morphine aswell as gabapentin for the nerve pain im on diclofenic codiene anti sickness pills all this has happened over last 2 years before then i put it down to every day aches and pains when really i should of sorted this out years ago im now on crutches waiting for my op hope you get sorted out soon xx

Turmeric is a strong anti-inflammatory which reduces swelling in the nerve root which reduces or relieves pain........... Found this.... Conclusions: Curcumin has been demonstrated to be safe in six human trials and has demonstrated anti-inflammatory activity. It may exert its anti-inflammatory activity by inhibition of a number of different molecules that play a role in inflammation.
