Lyrica is the brand name, pregabalin the generic. Both start at 75mg. According to Walgreens on Oct 30, 2015 pregabalin is not yet available. Manufacturers find ways to hold off generics( even for years!). Price without insurance coverage for that brand name is over $300/mo for 30 tabs. I asked twice but that doesn't mean I got the right info. Check your formulary, then your insurance, then the pharmacy for coverage and accuracy of pharmacy quote.

Keep in mind two things: Lyrica is considered a substance abuse drug and will require a 'pain' contract to be signed and you usually have to pick up the drug order from the doctor and hand-carry it to the pharmacy, You may need to provide a urine sample for illicit drugs then and periodically and it will only be a 60-day supply.

January 2016 is near. Consider whether you can afford to continue the drug throughout the months required. If you are on part D and you have to pay the higher cost mentioned and you are also taking other and perhaps also costly meds(don't forget the 'donut-hole) you may want to let your doctor know your circumstances. I was so desperate for pain relief that I forgot to do this, started the med and then had to get off it, make another doctor appointment, etc.

I don't know if the brand name is more effective than pregablain.

Is this only in the US though? I don't know if anna is in the UK or the US.

I'm on pregabalin in the UK and get it on prescription - no contract or anything to sign. I think there are some stricter drug control protocols in the US than there is in the UK.

I've had both the brand name, Lyrica, and another brand (might have been the one you refer to) - no difference at all.

I'm in the UK. Thanks for advice x

Hi,

As I understand it, both have the same active ingredient and therefore no difference as far as beneficial effectiveness and side effects are concerned. It is just like buying different brands in the supermarket.

with best wishes

Can anyone advise please? I was on Gabapentin then asked to change to something else. I have been given Lyrica 75mg one twice a day as well as Baclifen 10mg 1 x 3 times a day. I have taken them for 4 days now and find I have a lot more pain with severe arthritis. Do they take longer to get into your system?

Thank you.

Hello,

I'm sorry for your pain. I hope you feel better soon.

I recently was prescribed Gaba, for a nasty shingles breakout. I deal with CRPS daily so my doctor was concerned that I would develope the after pain of shingles herpetic analgesia. I took the Gaba before bed then woke up while racing to the bathroom to vomit. I wasn't sure if the Gaba caused the upset, but the following night, same reaction. So now I am on the Lidocaine 5% Patch. Which I like real well. It Alleviates the pain without the side effects.
