You're Going to Love this....

Another day, another instalment in the saga that I jokingly refer to as my life! Yesterday I had a dermatology appointment. Three months ago, after years of suffering with boils in the most uncomfortable places imaginable, I finally got a diagnosis of hidradenitis. It goes without saying that this condition is lifelong, incurable and painful. But the dermatologist prescribed me two new drugs to take to try and bring it under control. As usual I decided to read the information leaflet to see what I'm taking. I open the first leaflet, "If you are taking this for leprosy....", I quickly closed that up! Opened the second leaflet, "If you are taking this for AIDS....", that was immediately closed and ignored as well! I also got hibiscrub to wash with and a topical solution as well. Boy they were strong tablets, I shook for two weeks until my body adjusted to them. But, miracle of miracles they worked, no more painful boils! Yay! Back to yesterday's check up. Medicine working, good. However, the dermatologist has done a cholesterol check. (I wondered that as well. Why is a dermatologist checking my cholesterol. Answer: in case the tablets I am taking weren't working there are other medications, but they all raise your cholesterol). Turns out that my cholesterol is through the roof at 8.8. She tells me it's much too high to be because of my diet, there must be something else going on. I must see my GP as soon as possible, (ha, that's a joke in itself) and get it checked.

Now, I don't ask for much from life, well, not any more! But wouldn't it be fantastic if once, just once, I could have a hospital appointment and the doctor said, "excellent, you're cured, I'm discharging you"? Its a very small dream, but one day, maybe!

Have you thought about blogging your experiences? You have a nice way with words that might go down well in the blogosphere! Glad you're feeling better from the boils anyway. Sometimes when small things get fixed it seems like a miracle!

Hi Boozybird, fabulous username! I thought about blogging once but then thought how many people would really like to read about the disasters of an overweight, undertall, house bound, middle aged woman with 2 beautiful, house trained rescue dogs and 4 beautiful, not so house trained and in need of rescuing children! Plus, nobody would believe it was true.

BTW: the boils were HUGE! At one stage I thought I was about to become part of a Siamese quadruplet!

Well, keep blogging here coz although we can all read between the lines about the awful reality of chronic illness we also need to laugh about it from time to time!

Wonderful bit of writing.

Endurance test springs to mind.

Have you ever read the book called Heroic Failures?

Its a funny take on people who have drawn life's short straw.

It would seem unfortunately that you would be invited to join their rank.

Keep on trucking.

And keep on writing.

Sounds like you've got a dermatologist who knows what's she's doing. Clearing up boils is probably as close to a cure as you'll ever get. Now, just to get the cholesterol lowered. Lucky that was found!

Some drugs have multiple uses when used alongside others. Quite common for this.

Oh it would be lovely to be cured and discharged! Some people have high cholesterol just as some people have high blood pressure, and others have chronic pain. But it is something you can deal with, with your GP's help - and probably a darn sight easier to shift than pain!
