Hi, yes I can see your post. Sorry you in so much pain. Know where you coming from. I've got arthritis in most of my joints, had one knee which is still giving me grief. Got to have one on my other knee, which I'm dreading, with how my other one is.

Hi Lewis08,

Have you tried combining it with other pain meds?

I use a cocktail of pain meds to get me through. I combine Tramadol with codeine, paracetamol and amitryptiline at night. I'm not supposed to take ibuprofen but when it get's really bad, I do.

Do what works for you - discuss with your GP and let him know what you're experiencing and experiment in partnership with him using different combinations to see what works as no two people are the same.

It may be something as simple as increasing your Gabapentin and combining it with paracetamol,

Wishing you relief and success in your pain management.

Hi,thanks for replying,i just want off the pregablin that doc started me on three days ago,was tapering on gabapentin, these drugs are certainly not for me,i am having the worst side affects ever, would not want anyone to be feeling the way i do,i am not coping and docs are useless,no point in telling lies,i had never taken anything stronger than co-codamol before because they just were not for me,in agony,if i could get rid of hell side effects/withdrawel i would put up with pain which is immense, rather have my life back than feel like i have nothing to live for, very depressed as you can see from message, been googling to get info

Hi Lewis08,

Felt just like you six months ago but decided to keep experimenting with different meds as I was on the verge of ending it all but looked at my daughter and thought twice.

Please, please don't give up. I found amytriptiline so much better - or should I say that I had much fewer side effects with that than the other two we've both tried and I've now been moved on to Duloxetine.

I still take amytriptiline at night to help me sleep as the duloxetine on it's own doesn't help me at night. When it's really bad, I take both and Tramadol as well!!!

Co-codamol is a really good painkiller and very easily tolerated by most people. May I suggest you combine it with Ibuprofen and perhaps some Tramadol and see how you go. Whatever you do, don't give up on yourself until you've given it a real good go.

Try your first combination during the day - preferably, with other's around - in case you have a reaction to it and let me know how you go.

Waiting to hear back from you and wishing you a lot less pain.

Thank you. I hope you get the help you need too.

Hi I have read the threads below, I feel for you, you are not alone, I am in similar situation the meds are not helping, side effects are really bad. I take a new med Tephine it is not much better so I take it sometimes and stop it sometimes as I am worried about the side effect ie itching and mentally mixed up.Also due to have an op soon, doc cannot guarantee that the pain will stop, I will go ahead with it anyway as I have nothing to lose.

Keep positive, pester you GP and come on to this site often sending you positive vibes

Thanks hun,got a relaxation dvd or 3,not to take pregablin as been choking etc,was talking to NHS24,maybe allergic?thanks again for words of support.

Dear Lewis08, Im sorry for your pain . Gabapentin made me very very depressed and pregabalin was ok but made me fat. Over years and working with pain consultants I've come to a combination of meds that, mostly, work. Paracetamol, tramodol , morphine slow release, And 2 anti epilepsy drugs used off licence (commonly) for pain, especially neuropathic pain: Oxcarbazepine and Topiramate. So don't lose hope. If you don't shut down your pain with medication the pain pathways will establish themselves more strongly and your pain will get worse. Do try to get a referral to a Pain Clinic where an anaesthetist will deal will your meds. They have quite an armoury as well as injections etc if they think those will help you. Good luck.

lewis08 in reply to

Thank you..meant to be at a pain clinic months ago,so much going on i forgot(so have they by the looks of it,that pregablin helps nil, pains came back worse than ever, other stuff from gabapentin that's doing my head in now, been to pain clinic before, not good.

Get off the Gabapentin fast. I hope you don't mind my saying I think it is making you seriously depressed, a common side effect. Then please read my first reply again. Nowhere have I suggested you continue with these meds that don't suit you. However you should come off under medical supervision. Good luck

Im off gabapentin taperd slowly,on pregablin, worse and just gonna take one dose today, and yes am depressed, frustrated more,i know you did not suggest, what i will say is no one would believe the things that have happened to me being on that mental gabapentin, anyhow thanks for trying to help.

PS in your state of mind your are going to find every ing negative. It is the Gabapentin and the pain. Get a 2nd opinion from another pain clinic and make sure you get referred to the consultant. If you do nothing you won't feel any better.

hi

sorry your having so much pain, had 3 back ops myself and know how you feel, i'm on a load of pain relief ( diclofenac, tramadol, paracetamol, oramorph, transtec patches ) including gabapentin, which gives some relief from nerve pain, have been told consultant won't operate on my back anymore because iv'e got osteoparesis. i was sent to physio for my spine cause its curved and they started treating my knee, so physio a waste of time. are you on oramorph because that's very good when you take it with other drugs but only take on a night as it make's you very drowsy, but iv'e found it helps with nerve pain and lets you have a few hours sleep. if you can't take gabapentin during day ( my daughter can't cope with it ) just take it on a night if possible and it does help.

hope this helps
