Hi, I am new to the site. I had 4 operations for oesophageal cancer 5 years ago, including two thoracotomy ops. This left me with chronic post surgical neuropathic pain. Like you, I take paracetamol and codeine 3 or 4 x daily. However I also take Duloxetine, a more modern drug than Amitrypteline, which did not work for me. There are a whole range of antidepressant drugs that you could try at low dosage, plus pregabbalin. I also use Lidocaine patches which help to reduce surface pain and irritation, if appropriate for you? However these need to come from your pain clinic, as your GP will not be allowed to Rx them (expensive).
