Triptafen. Has anyone on here been prescribed this anti-depressant for pain (not mood) ?

I hadn't heard of these so I googled them - looks like they are a mixture of amitriptilyne - antidepressant used for pain - and something else used for anxiety. I hope you haven't read the patient info leaflet and been put off by the long list of side effects - remember that they have to report every single little side effect experienced when people trialled the drug, it doesn't mean they will give you those same problems.

I've never managed to get on with anything from the same group as amitriptilyne (tricyclic antidepressents), but I hope this helps you. Sometimes a combination of drugs can be more effective.

Thanks Tea. I haven't been prescribed this but years ago - 30 - I was. This was for atypical facial pain, prescribed by Pain Clinic while they did investigations. It was fantastically successful and I was later found to have a tooth buried in the roof of my mouth. Dental surgery removed it and the pain and the triptafen ceased ! I was wondering about asking for it. Like you, I can take nowt these days. Straight amytriptyline gives me palpitations!

It made me feel seasick all the time! And the others I tried made me hallucinate. I've also had duloxetine (another antidepressant) which gave me seasickness AND palpitations at the same time - ended up vowing not to take anything ever again, as I lay on the bathroom floor clutching the toilet, heart galloping like a race horse! Well, you can only ask, they may still have some at the back of the medicine cabinet.

It's interesting about your atypical facial pain. I've had facial pain for years which turned out to be caused by trigger points in my shoulder and neck. I've got a friend who had excruciating facial pain for ages and was on all the pills and was told there was nothing to be done - then one day her dentist removed a cracked tooth and she was cured!

At least the pain is real and some days it recedes, though I feel it is slowly polishing me off. Sad thing, I'm totally fit in all other ways - or was ! God knows what's going on now.
