There are a number of alternatives that appear to provide some benefit. I once read cranberry juice taken daily helps to reduce the CA125. The problem is its difficult to prove when on chemo. Aspirin is also reported but it can have a negative effect on the stomach hence why some people are prescribed omprezole to alleviate this. Ref Nuerofen, I was advised by our onc that it effects the kidneys so not recommended. Tumeric is another substance but we have not tried this. I am sure there are others muted to help. Rgds Paul

Hi Paul,

I think these are complimentary not alternatives... the difference being alternatives are when you go on an alternative regime instead of conventional medication (So stop conventional treatment) ...complimentary is in addition to conventional treatment not instead of ...and you will need to check with your oncologist before embarking on anything additional as some things can interfere with the chemo working ie grapefruit juice is bad to take if you are on certain medication as it interfers with the chemical balance. Sorry, your absolutely right, I meant in addition to existing chemo rather than instead of. Love Paul x

Sorry you are back on the chemo, I researched chemo on wikipedia and found out quite a lot about tumeric and similar, that may be worth a read.

I think it is better to look on the cancer research website for information on other stuff like tumeric as they have ongoing research and you can enter whatever you would like to find out about in their search box it will then come up with papers written and the date of research that has been done love x G x

Dear Jenny, You've also been in my thoughts. I hope the chemotherapy isn't too intolerable. Are you going to try Penny Brohn? I'm looking at going along for a half-day induction course.

I'm on the London coach on my way to see a homeopathic oncologist and would be happy to share what I learn. It seems there are things you can do alongside conventional therapies to help. I think it's worth getting a consultation based on a personal assessment. My GP's also looking forward to hearing what advice is given.

Take care, go gently now and keep in touch so we can cheer you on. Xxxxx

Love Annie

Hello Jenny,

However horrid it is, chemo is the best way to get rid of ovarian cancer. It beats all alternatives by miles. BUT logically it makes sense to start on alternative/complementary meds as soon as you are in remission. If you make your body very inhospitable to errant cells, it could be more effective than chasing the horse once it's out of the stable. Sorry about the poor analogy, I'm sure you know what I mean. I would keep on with the mistletoe, if your onc agrees. I know a number of women who have had a really good result with it. Cx

yes Chrystynh I understand what your saying and now agree going ahead with chemo. not sure if I can take mistletoe at same time will ask onc. Jennyxxx
