Carbo with gemcitabine

Hello fellow supporters. First of all best wishes for a 2013 with good results, long remissions and more successful clinical trials!

Second a question: has anybody tried carboplatin with gemcitabine? What has your experience been? Positive, negative? Did it work? Any stories of remission?

I was diagnosed nearly 6years ago and completed my 6th line chemo( carbo/gem) in October. At my stage of the game all chemo is maintenance and no true remission. However I did respond, ca125 reduced and final scan showed disease was stable Sorry I can't offer you any thing more positive but at least it isn't negative eithwer!

Good luck whatwever you choose, remember are responses are all individual as is the disease.

Hi, my wife had gem/carbo as her 3rd line treatment. She was meant to have 6 sessions but ended up having 8 because it was 'working' for her. By working i mean it was reducing her CA125 and also her tumours were reducing in size......though unfortunately her CA125 never went below 100, that was still the lowest it had ever been - even after surgery.

I think tiredness was the main side effect my wife noticed, now that could have been the chemo or the fact that it was her 3rd line chemo she started in less than a year, so the cumulative effects may have added to the fatigue. But bottom line is she tolerated it ok and for the 6 months she was having it she was able to pretty much carry on life as normal.

Sadly within 2 months of finishing it, her symptoms started up again and she is now on 4th line chemo.

I finished second line chemo with carbo/gem and my cancer came back under control. There were a few blips along the way as my CA125 kept going up and down. This was as a result of my schedule going out of sync. Each planned cycle was to have been, carb/gem on week one, gem week two and a week off. However, after the third cycle I had neutropenia after the week one of carbo/gem. The second week of gem was then postponed by a week but after my CA 125 starting to go up nd down a decision was made to ensure that I had the carbo/gem every three weeks . On the fourth cycle I was also given Avastin and I am given this every three weeks as a maintaence since my carbo/gem stopped November 2012. This is my experience and I know that at the end of November my CT scan showed no evidence of the cancer, I had cancer in my lymph nodes, across my stomach and a tumour close to my appendix. My first line chemo was just carbo as I had severe allergic reaction to taxol and that gave me a remission of a year. When I talked to my consultant about carbo/gem, he did confirm that clinical trials have shown that the combination works better than just carbo.

Yes I had this regime last year didnt last for me now on 18 weeks of taxol. Had first one on 1stnjan was very sick and feel very weak, tummy like a football, just hoping when into regime things will improve. Good luck with carbo and gem really hopes will work for you. All luck love nikki x
