?? Reaction to Tamoxifen.

Hello my friends

Anybody had a reaction to Tamoxifen. I am only into 4 days medication and I have felt sick, had diarrhoea and have a skin rash on my upper trunk that is driving me insane trying not to scratch. I cannot get into the doctors until tomorrow and am inclined to stop taking it but then again if it is shortlived I don't want to miss any opportunity to benefit from trying it.

I'm with Gwyn on this one. Can I ask if you are on Tamoxifen due to high oestrogen in the body which can feed the cancer cells? I have been on Letrozole since March this year due to excess oestrogen & my cancer returning for a 3rd time. If your side effects continued you might want to consider asking your consultant to allow you to try Letrozole instead. Letrozole is newer than Tamoxifen and from what I have read about it in trials with Tamoxifen/Letrozole in breast cancer patients it came out better. Does Northern Girl mean North England or Scotland? I'm from Glasgow.

Hi Northern Girl

I had ovarian cancer treated with radiotherapy 36 years ago, had unrelated breast cancer treated with chemo etc 10 years ago and then tamoxifen. I couldn't take it because I just cried all the time and felt totally hormonal on it. I changed to a different more up to date medication and although I suffered other things it was bearable for me to take for 5 years. Look and see what's available and speak to your oncologist is my suggestiin. It certainly worked for me.

Hi, I was diagnosed of stage 4, Breast cancer in November last year & was put on tamoxifen because the cancer was hormone responsive. I have experienced the hot flushes but I must confess, I combined the tamoxifen with a lot of other things: daily Holy Communion with Joseph Prince online; blending whole lemons with hot water which I take on empty stomach; supplements like Graviola (sour sop) pills & tea, Essiac Tea, Vitamin C & D, Probiotics, Miracle Drink (smoothie made up of Apple, carrot & beetroot), Nature's Made Burdock roots for issues with my lymph nodes & the discomfort has reduced considerably, even the swelling under my arm pit.

So far, the orange peel swelling on my right breast has disappeared, the breast is returning to normal. The pain in my breast & hands have reduced. I know I get hungry quite often but I haven't observed any other side affects in these 3 odd months I have been using tamoxifen.
