How soon after BEP chemo will I notice the side effects?

Hi I am one of the support nurses at Ovacome. The side effects can vary from person to person but most people will find that if they are going to feel under the weather it will be in the first week or so. Sometimes people find that they are Ok for a few days directly after the chemotherapy because of the steriods that they are given and then feel a bit rough other times people feel a bit rough soon after the chemo. Most people then begin to feel better until just before the next lot of chemotherapy - which is a good time to plan to do something like going out for the day- they feel more or less back to normal. Around the middle of the course your blood cells are at their lowest so it is really important at that time to stay away from infections as you are at your most vunerable. If you find that the anti sickness medication is not effective do make sure you tell the medical team so that they can give you alternative medication - there are lots of different types available. As time goes on you will probably feel more tired as the chemotherapy does have a cumulative effective
