Hi Umme,

I find that an awful lot of chemo in such a short time. I have had 12 different chemos in the past 5 years 3 months and I have been on maintenance treatment now for 4 years this coming May, with no break. If she is having problems with her blood and is very anaemic she will be weak, I had this happen to me a few weeks ago, I felt so ill and just stayed in bed most of the day.

Obviously the chemos the Drs are using are not bringing the cancer marker down, but to me 25 chemos in that amount of time is very excessive and they're not giving the chemo chance to work and get the cancer marker down. Sometimes the chemo marker doesn't immediately drop, it does take a number of sessions for this to happen. But I am not an oncologist, so who am I to disagree with your Mum's treatment. I have usually been on treatments 3 to 4 months before the Onc has decided to change them.

Unfortunately chemotherapy does cause bone marrow suppression and this is what I am suffering from, resulting in constant blood transfusions. When did she last have a scan and what was that showing ??

Incidentally I never have chemo straight after a blood transfusion, I have a blood transfusion and then wait a week before I am allowed another treatment.

Where is your Mum receiving treatment ?

Love Anna xx

thanks for your reply...ya its true from one n half year she is taking chemotherapy...with no break...she is having ovarian cancer..first.three chemo than surgery than again three chemo...that time her CA125 was 9. we were happy at that time...doctor told now she is fine n come for check up after 3 months...her treatment was going in Mumbai...than she want back to Gujarat..n within one months again her CA125 increase to 9000 n again lots of liquid filled in her stomach...she came back to mumbai..doctors were too shocked how it happens in just one month...from that time till now she is having her chemo without break...now she had tried CA125 do not decrease at all...her scan reports says that her cancer cells are on her intestine...so no other option only chemo is the treatment...dont know whats happening...hope every things go well...

Hi Umme

Don't you mean 25 sessions of chemo rather than 25 different types?

Perhaps 3 or 4 different kinds of chemo ? As Anna said it does seem a lot and doubt whether they could fit it all in !!!

I am sorry I can't be of any help but do feel it is best to clarify things with her oncologist or clinical nurse.

Best Wishes Gwyneth xx

Gwyn, my poor chemo'd out brain didn't think of that - the fool that I am. lol

Umme so sorry things are going as they are for Mum, but as I have told you I will have been 4 years this coming May WITH NO BREAK in chemo. The human body is stronger than we think. Obviously I don't know the distance you are away from Mum, but can't you try and visit her Oncologist with her and try and find out what she has had and what is happening with her treatment.

Please try and get it out of your head that to have chemo continuously is abnormal, it isn't, it is very normal to try keep this dreadful disease at bay.

I do get a lot of help and encouragement from your posts though so please keep it up best wishes Gwyneth xx

Hi Umme,

It may also be helpful to find out which chemo regimes they have tried and when they finished and started each regime, we may be able to compare notes as to whether the regimes are similar to ones we have had. I do not know what treatments are used in India but as Anna says, try to be there when she sees her oncologist and find out what they have and have not yet tried.

Good luck.

Love Lizzie

Good comment Lizzie.

Gwyneth, I try to remain happy and have a good laugh, obviously I do succeed at times even if it is due the old chemo brain !! What I hate is saying the wrong words, know what I want to say but they won't come out, so infuriating !!
