Bilateral salpingo-ophrectomy ( ovarian removal) in BRCA 1 patients.

Hello.

Anyone with this experience of being suggested to have prophylactic/risk reducing surgery. Please share your experience and did you go ahead- what were the next steps.

Hi there, yes I had the prophylactic surgery 12 years ago at the age of 43. I think I was becoming menopausal anyway as my periods had become erratic, so it wasn't a huge change for my body. Thankfully I only had mild hot flushes a few times and nothing else, though I know it can vary for different people. I was glad to have it done particularly as they found early changes on both ovaries. I haven't had the breast surgery though. I have yearly mammograms and also an mri yearly.
