We have been contacted by a researcher who is proposing to study how the genetic changes in genes BRIP1, PALB2, RAD51C and RAD51D cause ovarian cancer, through defects in DNA repair and chromosomal instability.
This would be laboratory-based research on cells.
The long-term goal is to understand how ovarian cancer develops and also improve the efficacy of targeted therapies through better understanding of the biology that underlies ovarian cancer.
Currently this is a proposal, it is not research that is being undertaken. We have been given the lay summary of the proposal and the researcher would appreciate feedback on whether the lay summary is understandable and also what you think of the project itself.
If you would be interested in providing feedback on the lay summary, please could you email support@ovacome.org.uk and we will send it to you? We would need the feedback by 21 August.
Many thanks as always for your help.
Best wishes
Anna

Studying OC sounds great but it’s not one disease. The 5 or 6 types have totally different origins, causes risk factors, mutations and cells of origins. You might say there different diseases. So which type of OC is the study about?
Thank you for your comment. This is really useful, as I took the the information above from the lay summary, which refers to ovarian cancer in the description, but the full proposal specifies high grade serous and it's mentioned in the title of the lay summary. So I will add to the feedback on the lay summary that it would still be helpful to specify high grade serous ovarian cancer in the description too.
Many thanks for your comment. At this stage, the researcher is just looking for feedback on whether the lay summary is understandable, and for patient thoughts on the project itself. You would be most welcome to submit any comments to us. If you are interested, please email support@ovacome.org.uk. We will then send you the lay summary and you can respond to us directly with any comments, which we will pass on to the researcher.
Thank you for your response. At this stage, the researcher is just looking for general feedback as to whether the lay summary is understandable, as well as general views of the project. I'm sure your opinions would therefore be most welcome, even though you are living outside of the UK. If you would like the opportunity to feedback, please email support@ovacome.org.uk so that we can forward the lay summary to you. You can then let us know your thoughts via email.
