Haven't heard of NGS but my oncologist mentioned genome testing at our last appointment. My hospital has only just started doing that. Are you in the US?

NGS means next generation sequencing of genes is to rapidly sequencing what genes are expressed and if any of them has pathological mutations. I suspect your oncologist is looking for an immunotherapy that is suitable for your tumor.

Hi Kj,

My mum had next gen sequencing done on her tumour. It is a relatively new way process, but it can lead to better treatment outcomes if they can find an actionable mutation. Her test came back high for the TP53 mutation, which isn't very helpful as most solid cancers have this mutation and they haven't found a specific way to target it.

I believe they are primarily looking for mutations that can be targeted using immunotherapy.

Hope this helps.
