I am 10 years just gone since the start of my journey, usual operation and chemo in 2014. then recurrence in the bowel in 2018 with resection and further chemo. I now have a single lung lesion noticed in March last year. Its now grown from 6mm in October to 9mm now. I have been told that its just repeated scans every 3m until it grows over 1cm or can be defined as cancer or not. I just wondered if anyone else has had similar? I have requested a PET scan and its gone to the MDT meeting but as its under 1cm (just) i suspect they will say no. Anyone any thoughts or gone through anything similar
Thanks
Diane

I have a lesion in my right lung and I am currently on chemo to treat this and some spots in my liver. I donโt want to alarm you but my lesion developed really fast over 3 or 4 months. It hadnโt really been mentioned on the scan before that which makes me wonder if it was hiding!
Sounds like yours is much better behaved. I developed a cough and shortness of breath. If you get either of these I would get on to your team very quickly xx
Great advice and thanks for your reply i will definitely watch out for them. Mine is in the upper lobe which apparently is less usual. I walk the dog every morning so that's a good marker for me to watch my exercise tolerance. How far through your chemo are you?
Dear Lyndy, sorry to hear about this I am still hoping that 4 abnormalities (2 in abdomen, 1 next to liver and 1 next to heart) which showed on scan in January (max 6 mm) are innocent. My oncologist said as my marker and blood results are perfect we can see how it looks in 6 months. I asked him for another CT already in 3 months to be sure. I am wondering how was your marker doing ? Was it also elevated ? Thank you and much strength for your last chemo sessions ๐๐๐
Hi Betty,I'm not in exactly same situation but I would like to offer my thoughts. I had mets on liver. All through 2022 it was watch and wait. I asked for surgery but onc said it wasn't an option. Eventually had chemo cos it grew into liver, when earlier it was just on top. Chemo stopped working. Onc had no other option but to refer me to another hospital. Immediately new onc said let's cut it out.
I wish I had asked for a second opinion straight away.
I would say if you are not happy or feel uncertain about the plans being made for you, ask for a second opinion from an onc in a different hospital.
I wish you luck. Stay strong and try to remain positive.
I think you are right and it has crossed My mind i have done it before when i saw Christina for my second surgery xx. I have been doing some reading and will probably ask about radiotherapy as an option. My thoughts are and all i have read is it wasnโt there for the last 10 years and itโs growing! It may still be small but the chances are the beast is on its way back xx thanks for your reply and how are you doing now?
Hi Betty, I have similar situation. 6 months after last chemo, CT scan showed 4 abnormalities, small lesions / dense blood tissue, that is not necessarily cancer but it could be as it is in abdomen (2) next to heart and next to liver. And it wasnโt there in July. How was your ca 125 marker ? Mine was 5.8, down from 8 in December so he said we will just repeat scan in 6 months (or 3 which is what I want) to see if it grows (now the biggest was 6mm) and check my blood again after 2 months for marker. I am taking Niraparib since August. He told me that pet scan or any other device will not show more now or the results can be as doubtful as the CT scan. They can only be sure if they examine it (take it out) which is not an option now. If it starts to grow that could be concerning though. Is hard decision what to do hope for you it will be just fine and is just sth that eventually disappears by itself. Take good care of yourself and listen to your body. Hugs, x
Hi there thanks for your reply. My CA125 is not a good marker for me unfortunately and rarely goes above the normal range even on my recurrence. Hopefully the niraparib will keep yours at bay its good stuff xx i am going to be on 3 m scans, moving forward and no new symptoms atm spoke to specialist nurse this week and that really helped.
Hi Betty ! Thank you for your reply ! So is the same as with me, wait and see and check. Am now trying to limit sugars and carbs to see if there is any impact of it ๐ at least I loose some weight on the way ๐คฃ
Btw I do have some occasional pains still in my right abdomen but am 10 months since surgery so still kind of think is the tissue healing ? It comes and goes and is pretty light so nothing concerning. But is really hard to understand is it tissue, is it menopause, is it surgery ๐ค.
Good luck with scans !! Let me know your updates too !! ๐ xx
And I definitely remember the abdominal discomfort as you start to do more and get back to normal. I still dont wear tight clothing around my waist as itโs uncomfortable after 10years!
I also had some lesions on my liver identified after my first surgery and chemo. They have never changed and at my second surgery the Doc said they are not cancer just harmless lesions so i hope yours are the same xx they still report on them now and again. I donโt follow any dietary restrictions but like you i am trying to lose a bit as there is a holiday coming soon!
Dear Diane, thank you for this comforting information and let your words be the truth ๐๐ค
Well am getting married also this year so that is for sure extra motivation also for my belly that still looks still very asymmetric like waves in the ocean ๐
10 years !!! That gives lot of hope ! And many years to come still !! ๐๐๐ค
