I wonder if anyone can help with this. Sorry for bothering you.

Hi. I have just had a TAHBSO on Thursday for a small ovarian cyst that had abnormal areas including a solid component. I'm post menopausal. And had a small vaginal bleed in February. Which is why I was referred urgently for scans. Second scan in July picked up areas of concern but first scan didn't. I think the cyst is low risk.

I've had a bloated and visibly swollen tummy since January/February. Which seemed to be put down to new onset IBS or something similar.

I came home from hospital on Friday very tired and noticed with surprise on Saturday that my tummy is now not swollen anymore and is soft instead of tight as a drum. I don't understand why it would change just because of the surgery. Be very grateful for any information that helps explain it. Many thanks. N.

Hi Nicolette- that is unusual, as it’s common to have a swollen tummy after surgery. I can’t see it as a bad thing though. Hope you recover quickly 😊

Not bothering us, this is what we're here for! Did the surgeon say anything about fluid (ascites) being present? If it was removed by the surgery that may be the explanation. But it's worth asking your CNS (if you have one ) or ask the surgeon at your follow-up appointment.

Hi SopSinger. I didn't see my surgeon after the surgery. I was supposed to be a day patient and then they decided to give me an epidural so I stayed overnight. I think one of the nurses on the ward said something about a sample being sent for examination when she was changing the catheter bag. My tummy is now swollen again. I really don't know anything till I get my results which should be in about a week. They said they couldn't rule out malignancy which was why they needed to operate. Thank you for your reply. N.
