Just some general advice while undergoing investigation.

Hi

Thanks in advance for responses.

My story, I am on long term zolodex, so medical menopause (due to endometriosis in right kidney) so I am in medical menopause and have been for 7 years. I had a check up and tv US in May was all clear.

So around 4 weeks ago I started experiencing period like pains and fullness, right side extreme pain and right hip pain and also some mild bleeding, (no periods since zolodex)

Urgent out of hour appointment examined and mass felt on right side.

Referred to ultrasound and gyne, that was today.

US found a 6cm mass on the right side but tech was unable to see the right ovary properly due to the mass, also something on my cervix.

I saw the consultant after the scan and have now been referred for a CT and whole host of cancer marker bloods.

I suppose I’m just after what I should expect, will the mass be removed, will they know after the CT if it’s OC or will it be surgery to know for sure?

I’m a single mother to 3 children and 1 is disabled. I am a lone full time carer to him and have very little in the way of a support network.

Thanks again

Hi Louisesc

Things will become much clearer for you soon. Usually the definitive test to diagnose cancer is a biopsy but the CT scan will give a better idea of what is going on.

As far as an operation is concerned, they will be looking at the options for getting an optimal result without risking spreading the cancer inadvertently during the surgery.

I was told I would have surgery, then they opted for chemo first. Sorry it can be a bit stop start, reverse and replan at this stage. Try to have patience as they are trying to do the best thing for you.

Meanwhile you can begin to find some support locally for yourself and your children.

Talk to other parents, support services and school to find out what is available. Practical support but also emotional support.

Even if you never need them, it will help you to know that you could ask if you wanted to.

I sincerely hope that you get good news and don’t have to worry about all this but don’t forget people can be very kind and really want to help you out..if you let them xx

Thank you, I suppose I would just like a definitive answer and don’t want to think il get that after the CT if infact it will need to be a biopsy.

Does that make sense.

Thank you for sharing

Hi Louise, I'm currently going through something very similar. I have had a CT scan and bloods after a suspicious looking cyst was found in an US scan. I have a follow up appointment Monday and no idea what to expect so no idea how to mentally prepare myself.

I hope that you get some answers and are not left waiting too long for results x

Thanks and you.

Had my bloods yesterday and CT is on Tuesday just waiting on appointment with consultant now.

Did you get your blood results? I’m in two minds if I check mine when they come back or not. I’m very trying to be in the mindset of not worrying until I know and crossing each bridge as it comes

Good luck

Hi Louise,I so hope you have good friends/neighbours who will step in and be able to help you. You are a super hero❤

Everyones journey is different & fingers x the mass will turn out to be a cyst 🤞 all I can do is tell you my story. After CT I had a laparoscopy on 29 May, and diagnosis on 12 June.

I so hope you get good news x

Hi. Do you mind me asking how long your wait was between your CT and your laparoscopy? I've had my CT and bloods and waiting for any news.

Hi Louise. They only know what the mass is for sure once they cut a little piece off it and check the cells under the microscope. That's called histopathology. The purpose of the CT is to see more clearly what "soil" the cancer "weed" is planted in. For example if it has roots going into the gut or the liver that affects how they do the surgery. It could easily be a benign ovarian cyst so be optimistic. M
