I recently had a test that showed elevated C125 in the womb area. I believe it is raised to 76. I was told that this could be an indicator of cancer being present. We still need to do further tests.
As this is all new to me, I was wondering if anyone might be able to shed some light on this?
Thank you in advance.

CA125 is a cancer antigen (protein) that is secreted in the blood by some cancer cells, especially ovarian cancer. It can also be triggered by inflammation anywhere in the body (even a cold) so is insufficient to make a diagnosis. 76 is a relatively small elevation (I've heard of readings in five digits) but the NICE guidelines say that if it is over 35, further investigations should be done. Your doctor is doing the right thing for getting further tests done. You should have a transvaginal ultrasound (to visualise the ovaries) and if that shows anything suspicious it should be followed up by a CT and/or MRI scan. There's a great resource at fwc2022stg.wpengine.com/wp-...
Unfortunately, my CA, 125, went up from an average of 11 to 59. I’m very concerned. They did CAT scan and PET scan and nothing has showed. It could be inflammation or infection.
Thank you for your question. HRT stands for Hormone Replacement Therapy. The NHS explain that 'HRT is a treatment used to help menopause symptoms. It replaces the hormones oestrogen and progesterone' which reduce with menopause. If you would like to learn more, the NHS have further information here on their website: nhs.uk/medicines/hormone-re... .
In addition, Ovacome have an information resource all about surgical menopause which is available through this link: ovacome.org.uk/surgical-men... . This includes a section all about HRT.
I hope this information is helpful. If there's any further information we can provide or anything we may be able to support with, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us. Thank you Liz. Common sense tells me it could be a number of things, but until I have the tests, I can’t help worrying. But I do understand your point.
