Hello All
This is to let you know about a Patient Engagement Day being run by Cancer Research UK and UCL Cancer Trials Centre. The organisers have five patient spaces left available, and asked if any of our members would like to attend. It will be taking place in central London on Friday 23 June 2023, 10.30am-4.30pm.
The information they have asked us to pass on is as follows:
- The audience will be a mix of cancer patients and trial researchers, but the day is targeted mainly at cancer patients.
The event will include talks and interactive activities such as live polls, workshops, focus groups and panel discussions about clinical trials and Patient and Public Involvement(PPI). Examples of the topics that will be addressed are:
• Role of the PPI representative in cancer research
• Inequalities in accessing cancer care and clinical trials across the UK
• Diversity, Equality and Inclusion in clinical trial recruitment
• The process of Informed Consent
• Quality of Life in cancer patients
The event has 3 main aims:
1. Create a sense of community amongst the different networks of cancer patients
2. Knock down barriers between patients and researchers and hear the patients’ side
3. Provide a safe space for learning both facts and stories of the past and current environment of trials, where both patients and researchers can learn on how to improve the outcome and the experience of people involved in trials.
They will cover your travel expenses by refunding your train tickets.
If you are interested in attending please email support@ovacome.org.uk confirming you are happy for your details to be passed to the organisers. They will then send a registration link to your email address.
Best wishes
Anna
