Wound up in emergency room. Then surgery following a blockage . For four days I could eat only ice chips . I am home now but struggling with eating . Told only all portions and low fibre and low acid . One of my surgeons Told me I could only eat small portions. If I see another bowl of red jello. I will scream I too am exhausted, but was told it would take 4 to 6 weeks to recover from the surgery . I am 79 so don't expect to be jumping around
I try to go out for a car ride daily and spend time on our back porch.
Just wanted to say you ladies who are struggling like me. Thank you gor your posts , they do help .

That was the week that was! Hoping you are making a smooth recovery. Sounds like you are doing all the right things. Not too long before you are jumping around. Emma x
Don't you think lime jello might be an option? Chocolate pudding isn't cutting either .You are so kind Lyndy , you always have a positive spin. Thanks so much .
Hang in there Gillian, it will get better. It must have been a real shock to get whipped in for an unplanned surgery! I suppose the blessing is that these life saving options are available to us.I hope you can eat more than jello soon.
Hi Gillian, so sorry that you had to go through a surgery for your bowel blockage. I have had three bowel blockages and luckily I didn’t have to under go surgery for them. They are so painful, and then recovering from surgery just makes the whole ordeal with more pain. Hope you feel better soon and can start a new diet. Take care, Donna xx
so sorry to read you’ve had a stay in hospital following emergency surgery, I’ve recently had a bowel resection but not admitted via A&E so that must have been stressful for you. My surgeon said bowel surgery is major surgery so do rest now you’re at home and be kind to yourself. I hope you have family or friends supporting you as the first week or two at home is tough.
I was advised to eat small meals and low residue, bland foods initially and that did help. A nice hot water bottle on my tummy also helped with the soreness and healing pains, sending hugs to you Xx
Thank you for your kind words, they were debating taking me into surgery at 2a.m but decided to wait until 10a.m the next day . My partner Frank was with me and my son came.too .I was ready to call it quits , but the nursing care was above and beyond . I was so lucky .
My oncologist is on staff there and directed my care . I am home now , Frank is a wonderful care taker , my son came for the weekend. Thank for the suggestions. Will follow them .Gillian Mookie Fox 🦊
just going through this at the moment. Started last week with it. Emergency decided not to operate just to drain my stomach which was an amazing relief. Spent Mon- sat on the ward. Went from 3 days nil by mouth to the jelly and ice cream then soup then a bit of mashed potato. Sent home with same diet guide. Which I completely stuck to. Saturday was a lovely day. Started with a blockage again Sunday so straight in with the nose tube and drain after being in a&e for the day in pain again. Currently nil by mouth again. Trying not to operate as already have several scar lesions and they don't want it to make things worse. It's such a struggle. I'm glad to hear you are through the worst and can actually have jelly again. Will be glad to get the tube from down my nose out. Really scratching this time. Just got to persevere a couple more days then talk of keeping me on a liquid diet from now on. I wish you well moving forward and hope you've got it sorted once and for all. Xxx
