Hi All, I had my 12th round of Avastin last week and have been struggling with generalised aching and joint discomfort. On reflection this has probably been getting worse since round 10. I am also on Olaparib which I know causes similar side effects. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this. Furthermore I had a mild dose of covid 3 weeks ago... perhaps a contribing factor?

Oh yes, I generally feel well in myself but do get aches and pains...mostly ankles, hip and back. I'm on Avastin 7th one on it's own (had 6 with chemo). I've been on Olaparib since August with breaks and dose reductions. I do believe joint pain is a fairly common side effect of Avastin.

I feel like I've aged physically but I will take it if it continues to work 🤞🏼

Perhaps have a word with your team and see what they advise to help alleviate your discomfort.

Take care. x

Thanks for sharing your experience. My team just increase my analgesia and I'm already on quite a strong one. I'm having a CT scan next week so I'll discuss with them again once results are available. Have a lovely Christmas 🎄 😊

I have Ehlers Danlos ( congenital over elastic soft tissues) and was put on Olaparib but advised against Avastin. I do get some muscle stiffness on Olaparib.

Thanks for your reply. I do hope you're doing OK from the Ovarian Cancer point of view, with just the Olaparib. Don't know much about Ehlers Danlos, but it sounds quite complex. Enjoy your Christmas 🎄

I have been on Avastin about the same length of time as you. I also started Olaparib in August. Now on 200mg twice daily. I too get joint pain and stiffness. I find that being immobile for long periods of time makes it worse, so try to get up and move about at least hourly. I find that when I am walking the pain seems to melt away so do this as often as I can, not easy in this weather. I also do a couple of yoga/stretch classes a week. I am fortunate in that the pain I have is not severe enough to require pain killers. I hope you too can find coping strategies to make things easier. Have a good Christmas x

I agree some walking and exercise seems to help

Thanks for your reply. Yes I agree being sedentary definitely makes it worse, but when I try to be more active I suffer more afterwards. No easy solution and we're all different. Enjoy your Christmas 🎄

Hi, Happy Christmas. Having trialled Avastinback in 2007/8 and been on Olaparib for 9 years now I’d have to say from experience that it’s the Avastin causing the aches and pains. Hopefully they aren’t too bad that it adversely affects yr dayto day life. Big hug. Kathy xx

Thank you for your reply. It's good to know others have experienced similar effects, but obviously not nice when you're the one suffering. Enjoy your Christmas 🎄

I'm pretty much exactly the same- due to have 12th Avastin on 30th Dec, also on Olaporib and currently have Covid (!) Very achy leg joints particularly on my right side, and achy chest exacerbated by covid. Definitely got more achy since around avastin 9 or 10. My hunch is it's the accumulation of Avastin. I'm just hoping this eases a bit when we come off Avastin

That's really interesting to hear you have similar symptoms. I've found on last 2 rounds it has really affected the shoulder joints of the arm in which the infusion is administered. So much so I had an acute frozen shoulder last month. Right leg also more painful, but I have a permanent DVT and sciatica in this leg, so difficult to determine cause of pain. Thanks for replying and enjoy your Christmas 🎄

Avastin gave me some joint pain. I took analgesics. It kept me in remission for a good long time.
