Hi everyone, I am curious as to how long a patient with my type of cancer can stay in chemo ? I have been with weekly chemo for about a year and a half now .

Dear Rosa

I’m sorry I can’t answer your question. I hope you get some more replies soon – when there are many replies I rarely feel there is anything useful I can add.

Your question is so brief I looked up your history and it seems you had a 1st re-occurrence after 4½years. Also dealing with post-surgery was challenging and at the outset you had very high CA125 results, but they responded to treatment. I hope you’ve been well since treatment in 2016-7 – fantastic result!

Personally I think it might be useful for you add to your post, perhaps mentioning the names of your chemo infusions, and any recent scan & CA125 results/trends, so members have more to go on. Then members with similar experiences can comment and answer questions to supplement whatever your oncologist is telling you.

I was surprised to hear of weekly chemo for 1½years as in the UK I think treatments are either limited to or changed within 6 months, but there may be different protocols in USA. Perhaps the results have been disappointing, and your infusion has varied during the 18 months with the aim to find the most effective one for you?

It’s great your oncologist thinks the risk/reward continues to be beneficial whether via the same chemo or trying different ones – long may it continue. Or better still that you find one with an outcome doesn’t require any further treatment at all, of course.

Good Luck - take care and all the best xxx

Has your CA125 come down? Have you had a scan to see if weekly taxol is working?

I am 6 1/2 years into OC 1 year of remission. In general I think different chemos have different time frames and PARPs usually go for 2 years avastin a year and a half. Sometimes they want you to take a break to recoup and regain force.Best of luck hugs from paris

Weekly Taxol is usually better tolerated than other chemos. Congratulations for being on it for a year and half.

Looks like it is working and it is delivering some good results while not giving you any unpleasant side effects or neuropathy.

Are you on a trial?
