I have had a appointment with my oncologist today who has said the scan has shown the disease is stable and ca 125 has dropped. This is a stupid question but being stable is that good? Sheenagh xxx

Hi Sheenagh Yes it’s good! Left alone the cancer goes into overdrive replicating bad cells but yours is now in the slow lane and you may find it continues to shrink and fade.

The fine detail is around what they actually saw on the scan and what they decide to do next. Radiographers report absolutely everything…even if they are not sure what it is…. so what they report as a not entirely clear scan may include scar tissue, lumps and bumps of unknown origin etc.

Don’t get too hung up on this… the main take away is that your treatment has been effective xx

Hi Lyndy

Thank you for reply it means a lot. He said it was stable and had not spread. I asked him about ned he said he has not heard of that and would not use that term. Sending you hugs Sheenagh xx

Stable is good, they will use the scan as they with all of them as bases to see how things are and if as in your case it's stable means what they are doing is controlling the issue, pretty sure you will have further scans which will monitor the areas of interest. Awesome news that it's stable have a lil celebration for that news it's good.

Hi Karnak-UK

I think I was hoping for ned. Were you told that you were ned. My oncologist has never heard of ned. It’s not a term he uses. Sheenagh xx

Yes I’m told I am NED, no evidence of disease. Surprised your dr doesn’t use it if it’s warranted.

NED is mostly an American term. British patients have adopted it because there are so many multinational groups on the webs, but British doctors haven't done so as much. They are more likely to talk about remission.

I was diagnosed in 2007 and the term ‘remission’ has never been used, only NED. I once asked if that meant remission and was told ‘that’s not a term we use’. I have been under 3 consultants, 2 Cancer centres and seen many drs and they have always used NED.

Very pleased for you. I think a lot of oncologists reluctant to use NED. Presumably there is evidence of cancer but it's being held constant, isn't growing and as others have said will continue to reduce and shrink. Great news for you xxx
