Hi, I had a pic line inserted 9 days ago to receive an infusion over a 5 day period (bad veins hence the requirement for the pic line). On day 8 I noticed a small bruise started to form beneath the insertion site on my elbow but the nurse stated this was just from the initial procedure. I had the line removed the same day (day 8). But the bruise has since developed to the attached image. It has been 10 days now. There is no swelling, redness etc. I’m just curious is this level off bruising normal, I have circled the insertion site in the photo. It is on the top side of my arm, and I’m assuming the bruising is coming from the vein the pic line was inserted. I was not warned about this so I’m unsure if I need to be concerned. Any advice I’d appreciated. Also this is not chemotherapy related in terms of treatment however I figured topic wise pic lines are quite common (my prior googling) so I may get answers here. Thanks again.

I had this sort of bruising after I had my pic inserted. ( I had a line in for four months to receive the chemo drugs because my veins are rubbish). A nurse said it was where blood had leaked during the insertion and had drained to the lowest part of my arm. She said it would disperse without any problem and it did. However, if you get any heat or pain in the area I would contact you GP just to be o the safe side. But what the picture shows was about the same as mine and it went away with no problems. Best wishes x
