I am 12 months post surgery and completed chemo for bilateral ovarian cancer. It was stage 1 C. This pain was present immediately post op and improved but now has recurred. It’s an odd burning pain. Is this common and if so what causes it and what can I do to treat it?

Hi Bluechef3,
I had similar burning pain after surgery. I was told that it was probably nerve pain and they gave me Gabapentin which helped a lot. Unfortunately, the Gabapentin gave me a racing heart and made me feel woozy, so I couldn't continue on the drug. Luckily, the burning pain didn't stick around too long for me.
This pain wasn't near my incision and was the worst pain I had from the surgery.
I would ask your doctor if it could be nerve pain. I wish you well.
Have you had a post-surgery CT Scan? It could be scar tissue but best to check it out. 🙏
Hi there
I had exactly the same, I remember it was over a year after my surgery and I was back in work and had this terrible burning sensation in my lower abdomen. Next appnt with my onc I told her and she was happy to send me for CT scan to rule out anything worrying, which it did and I was absolutely fine.
I honestly carried on having aches, pains and twinges in my abdomen for at least 2 years after my debulking op, my surgeon told me it’s major surgery and I had peritoneal stripping (which I think most debulking ops involve) and that can result in your tummy never really feeling the same again. It takes a very long time for the scar tissue to settle down, and I think only time will heal it. You could try Epsom salt baths and ibuprofen to reduce inflammation but if you are worried then check with your onc to see if they want it investigated, a ca125 test should put your mind at ease.
Sending hugs Xx 💖
Thanks so much for your reply and your honesty! I think my tummy has not felt the same since my surgery and it’s reassuring to hear what you say. I had been assuming that this might be normal post op and I can live with it but given that I had literally no symptoms before diagnosis u til I had a painful torsion (which let me know there was something really wrong). I am finding it hard to know what to consider abnormal. I’m so glad that you are ok. Stay well and take care X
Hello. I have had a very similar surgery last year. I don't recall a burning sensation. Your best course of action is to contact the mcmillan nurse or any other contact person you have been given. Try not to worry. Good luck xx
