Weakened bladder
Hi. Sorry I can’t really help except to say I felt that way after surgery and during carbo taxol but it did get better. It felt there was numbness where I would normally feel the urge to go.
Yes, I have had this issue since my first chemo. My On c did not accept that chemo had anything to do with it, but did refer me to the eurologist. He found nothing wrong with my plumbing but did prescribe tablets, which I take as and when I feel the irritable bladder coming on.If you read my old posts, you will find other references to this issue.

How odd I’ve just had this the past couple of days. I’ve even got an old measuring jug at the side of the bed incase I don’t think I can make it to the toilet. Strange one eh!
Yes I can empathise there suds! I had bladder weakness years before OVC. I'm Tena's best customer. Never, ever go anywhere without. Daytime and night. (Too much information but you did ask) The urologist has helped me for years. That's the one to ask. You have enough to worry about without that. I have a daily tablet called Mirobegram which helps and a daily low dose antibiotic for recurring UTI's. All the best and remember! you don't have to cope with it on your own. Ask for help.

Thanks Angela.. think Tena's has found a new best customer.. prehapes we should take shares out.. thanks for the advice regarding the urologist.. can i ask did your GP refer uou or your oncologist??Good luck with your future journey.. Suds
Sorry Suds just re-read your post. I think the GP would gladly refer you to the urologist. I have a neurological condition so I was probably referred by my Neurologist. Gosh all these ‘ologiststs’The urologists are so understanding of our predicament and would help you so much. Ring the GP ASAP and ask him to urge an appointment. Your oncologist might even refer you.
All the best

I experienced this for a short period of time after chemo and always needed to be near a toilet. I mentioned this during my appointment and it was suggested to me that I may have a bladder infection. I was given anti biotics and it cleared up within a week. Hope you can get it sorted soon. Ann x
Hi Suds.Had issue after my deabulking surgery and removal of tumour January 2020 actually was horrified when the morning after I returned home to have had the wee incident ..end of 2020 had UTI literally every 3 weeks apart in total 3 if those all treated by antibiotics my oncologist has now told asked the GP to change the anti biotic as she didn't like the ones the GP proscribed ...also the deabulking surgery and chemo do weaken the system she encouraged me to do pelvic exercise ..have not had problem back ...however I have been in severe pain this week right hand side lower groin area and lucky for me had a oncology appt on Wednesday ... I have a bad kidney infection am on a course of anti biotics ...am wondering if things do change once you have the surgery and chemo etc because prior to the diagnosis of OC never had these issues.
I don't tend to do very well with the drink water to this amount request but that has always been me ... wish you luck in trying to determine the fix but thinking you may get or find a solution from posts on here.
I think you have the right idea with the pelvic floor exercises. One thing though, you might want to get some hands-on sessions with a specialist to be sure you are doing the exercises correctly so you will get the most benefit from that effort. All the best to you! Deb in Colorado
I had problems after carbo/caleyx with bladder, told docs about it ,they said nothing to do with chemo ,better now chemo has finished
Hi. I haven’t had more than the occasional leakage incident, but I do get up in the night more frequently- usually 3-4 times. Plus I’m more sensitive to all internal activities. It occurs to me that you may be getting pressure from full/slow-moving bowels. When mine were particularly upset post-op I went to a cranial osteopath, who helped enormously. She thought that they were in shock - certainly everything worked better after I saw her.
If there’s a possibility of a UTI you could try adding cranberry juice or watermelon to your diet. They’re both helpful to prevent UTIs - look them up - and (unlike grapefruit) shouldn’t interfere with medication in any way.
As well as pelvic floor exercises, I’m a big fan of Pilates, as what goes on in the pelvic region will be affected by how toned and mobile the rest of your body is. Look for a teacher who really explains things and starts at real beginner level. My teacher takes us through lots of micro-exercises before we do anything else and even though I’m now in her ‘advanced’ class, I still do them. I also sometimes watch pilatestonic.com videos, as I think their teachers explain really clearly, but they are a bit advanced if you’ve never done anything like it before.
Hope things get better. Best
I had some problems before surgery due to having four pretty large babies, and the hysterectomy made things worse. My doctor recommended a few sessions with a pelvic floor physiotherapist, which helped tremendously. I also started using a vaginal estrogen cream, because estrogen loss weakens the tissues in the whole pelvic area. Good luck.
I would try a tablespoon of raw apple cider vinegar and or a squeeze of lemon juice in your water helps raise the ph to alkaline pesky microbes don’t do well.......mine is usually at 7 or 7.5 and have never had a UTI. Even after debunking 6 hour surgery .......might be worth a try
